I got some of those sound dampening o rings for my Huntsman TKL and man it made a huge difference, but the "travel distance" of the keys feels a little off now.

You'll struggle to find anything checking all those boxes. Wireless enthusiast keyboards seem few and far between. Maybe someone here can weigh in on whether there are any good wireless/bluetooth adapters that would work with minimal pain. The GMMK Pro looks very good for everything, and if you can stomach the lack of wireless, seems like it would have everything you need. First shipments will be within the next month, and then shipping out as stock comes in - if you're just buying a new one and have to get behind other pre-orders not in the first batch I imagine it'd be two or three months. Yeah, for mechanical keyboards, right now we're at Wireless/Good/Rotary: pick two. Mass manufacturers haven't really put out anything good imo. But also they're just now really starting to get in on the rotary trend and that seems to be completely separate from the whole wireless thing. In the hobbyist community there's another hurdle; QMK. The license for the popular software that most of the MK community boards run is at odds for the licenses of the Nordic Bluetooth controllers. So QMK is open source, but the Bluetooth licenses require that the source code not be released. In order to have an open source implementation of QMK, you would also have to open source the Bluetooth implementation which breaks the Bluetooth license agreement. So QMK + Bluetooth does exist but it's rare and it just basically pisses on the licensing for NRF hardware. There are other alternatives in development like ZMK, but they're still in their infancy so I can't really speak to their support for rotary encoders. Also ZMK is not fully open source. Beyond that, there just hasn't really been much interest in what you're asking for from the MK community from either designers or hobbyists.

With what work approved for paying for the equipment, the base model was definitely covered but I'd have to fight for the extra $20-30 for an "unnecessary" part. Figured better to get some than none.

Briefly updating: Freestyle 2 came in and set it up at work. The key split is weird (I never learned to touch type and my left hand usually handles all the letters over to the UJM column on qwerty boards; Freestyle splits between TGB and YHN), but it all seems to work normally and it's not even a bad feel for membrane. Appreciate the recommendation/support, I'll be looking into the tenting kit. e: one additional thought. Would have been nice to have the arrow keys embedded as a Fn toggle or something rather than still out in the corner, there's still the gap between "end of letters" and "start of arrows" (plus the pointless shift key that does nothing but throw me off) that my wrist has to click across every time. I picked up a Kinesis Freestyle Edge RBG with the tenting kit last week and I love it. Never want to go back to a normal keyboard again, definitely going to be picking up another to use at work when/if I have an office to go into again.

Stabilizer lube, and the stab bumper things from kbd fans, are both amazing upgrades. The GMK (at least, my pretty old one) was a very rattly board stock. After stabilizer lube/clip/pcb bumpers it's a brand new experience. I like it so much, best mod I've ever done.

The MK community really embraces the opposite of wireless. There’s a lot of options for over the top cables to make it an additional point of customization/flair. Zap cables are some of my favourite, their stickers and stuff have a great art style. https://zapcables.com

So I wasn't super impressed with my Glorious Pandas, nor with my Gazzew U4 Bobas. But then I started hearing about these Holy Bobas, where you use the Glorious / Halo True stem and put it inside the Boba housing. Holy poo poo these things are tactile as gently caress and may be my new favorite switch. Highly, highly recommend trying it. They are the thockiest tactile I've used, there's very little travel before the bump, and the bump is very, very sharp. They're like super thocky Zealios. If you've got the parts around, give it a try. I wouldn't recommend going out to buy the parts individually because frankenswitching can be very expensive, but this allowed me to make good use of some switches I wasn't super hyped on.

It's typically built with the stem from a Halo True, and the housing of a Gazzew Boba. "Zykos" are another insanely popular Frankenswitch, but are extremely expensive to build because they use parts from three fairly expensive switches: Zealios V2, Invyr Pandas, and Halo Trues.

Pulled the trigger on my first mechanical keyboard with a WASD TKL custom print with browns. I doubt I'll let this become a big hobby for me because I already have enough expensive time sinks, but we shall see. I'm mostly just looking forward to having a good solid aesthetically pleasing keyboard after cycling through crummy ones my whole life.

Now I’m sitting here with three bags of switches “to try out”, a num pad kit ready to assemble, a gmmk pro reserved, and also casually looking at soldering equipment, because “I’m this far in - might as well try making a custom cable”.
