This says they had to put another team together.

They even have another Ubisoft studio helping out.

I do have to laugh a little at the announcement. No new content until the end of the year (at best) but they're sure to extract more money from people via apparel events.

They've been pretty adamant about not copy/pasting the previous game, which to be fair is one of the top things Gamers constantly complain about. Which still results in a whole bunch of people asking to bring back XYZ from the previous game.

It's not in the announcement but some of the devs have been fielding questions on Twitter. You won't have to rebuy the passes and they will be unlocked again, and new stuff will be added to the premium tracks if you already paid for it previously.

They're 10 bucks and come with some cosmetics and resources and caches. Given you can finish the entire season pretty casually I think it's actually pretty worth it if you care about that thing.

You get extra caches which include material caches, named item caches and exotic caches, like the last one you got 2 exotic caches at level 90 something. Also some exclusive cosmetics (like special gun skins for the named items) on the paid track.

but if you don't pay you will not miss out on specific exotics or gear, like the Scorpio unlock or any season associated gear sets or named items

All the Season exotics get added to the general loot pool after the season ends. You might get a Scorpio or Waveform out of a cache or drop, now. (I think I did get a second, lower-rolled, Waveform in the last couple weeks.)

Raid loot is still raid-locked, though. <whimper>Regulus<whine>

I picked this up a while ago but only got into it recently after buying the nyc dlc - I've been playing solo and trying to get to the proper point of progression to go there instead of using the skip.

Hit level 30 and finished the capitol mission - felt the 'ending' cutscenes was a complete mess and was kind of bewildering as to what was actually happening.
And then I'm this world tier system... Which just seems like a mess.
During that play session yesterday I picked a specialisation and got the giant sniper rifle, then I did the jefferson mission.
Tonight I boot the game up and it's telling me I need to go pick a specialisation, even though I already have the giant rifle, then I do the air and space museum mission. The capitol stronghold says I can't do that mission as I need to do the jefferson one before it will unlock, even though I did it last night.
Do I have to do all the missions leading up to and the stronghold in a single play session or something? It's so loving confusing how to progress.
The list of things to do next in the menu is all random poo poo and doesn't actually include any missions either.

The pmc entity Black Tusk, LLC came in and wrecked poo poo, so now you gotta beat them up in 2 “invaded” missions->stronghold->tidal bay as that’s the next step in the story.

They invade once a week and it resets, there are 4 strongholds that it cycles through, so the 2 missions and the stronghold are different per week.

Kibayasu
Mar 28, 2010

There are two Jefferson missions, Trade Center and Plaza. That’s gotten people before. But no you don’t need to do each stronghold and it’s missions like that.

Basically you need to complete the connected missions and hit a minimum gear score before the game lets you do a stronghold. The world is your oyster for how you get the gear score - replay missions, capture control points, run around the streets, whatever. Once you beat one stronghold you move into the next world tier automatically and you get the gear score and do the missions for another stronghold again. Order doesn’t matter. Once all 3 strongholds are done you unlock the final Black Tusk specific stronghold and once you beat that you’re in World Tier 5.

While you’re doing the invaded missions for the first time the world doesn’t reset. That only starts to happen once you reach World Tier 5.

Yeah, I figured that out, I just felt it was introduced in a super weird and sudden way. There's a cutscenes of fireworks and celebration, then some guys getting off a boat with robots then I'm back in the game and being told to pick a huge gun. It was very unsatisfying.
The user experience & menu systems supporting this section of the game is a bit of a mess, the to do list doesn't work and it seems I have to move the cursor over a stronghold and follow the lines back to know what I should do.

Kibayasu posted:

Ahhhh, gently caress. I guess that must be it. Maybe the specialisation thing was a bug unrelated.

I know I have the skip to jump straight into the dlc, I will likley use it, I just pushed myself to get through the game properly, was super eager to get to nyc and the 'ending' was the equivalent of getting a stack of unexpected work dumped on your desk at 4:55 on a Friday.

I'm fairly new to the game as well. Just hit 40 yesterday. I do suggest you go through the World Tier system legit for your first character. I mean...that's the game. It's a looter shooter. Grinding is what you'll be doing. Same missions over and over and over. Might as well embrace it.

Kibayasu
Mar 28, 2010

However unlike the 1-30 missions there’s basically no contextual difference between doing the invaded missions at world tier 1 and level 40. It’s the same “black tusk is doing something bad, stop them” no matter when you’re doing them. The world tiers go by too fast to make builds so if the world tier game is boring then I would say definitely go to New York.

Yup, just keep doing anything that gives blueprints, eventually you'll have all the ones needed to make upgrade poo poo out of Hi-Points and airsoft plate carriers and the like. Murdering lots of each faction might give the related material BPs, I didn't pay too much attention to when those dropped.

So I reinstalled this after... a year, judging by my clan notifications. Right around NY launched (haven't bought it yet).

I'm at... WT3 according to this, unlocked my spec (firewall) but the last req for the level 2 unlock is Manning Zoo, which is apparently unlocked at WT5, so I'm guess that's going in the backburner for now.

So, couple questions: I had been playing this with a couple friends for the most part, but it's highly unlikely they'll jump back in. Can I run poo poo solo comfortably? What should I be doing at WT3, just running stuff to gear up and hit WT5? Any ideas/suggestions?

poo poo, can't even remember what I was running, skills-wise. Anything to avoid/focus, or just pick a type of gun I like and build towards that?

On the sniper dogs specifically their lights go red when they’re about to shoot. Most of the time anyways. Much like the big enemies they have armor you need to break but it’s just one big piece. Their legs are not armored and in addition to damaging their health directly hitting them with enough damage over time will briefly stagger them. Also when they’re about to shoot a small red box will extend to your right of their turret and destroying that will jam them for quite a while.

They’ve now added minigun and grenade dogs. Minigun dogs can be disabled for a short time by shooting their red leg joints and grenade dogs will shock themselves and anyone around them by shooting the red ports on their backs. They will also shock everything around them when the blow up.

It should work just fine. One of the big improvements from their massive gear overhaul was making skill builds more much accessible throughout the entire game instead of being relegated to endgame. As long as you're stacking pieces with skill tier cores a turret/drone build will be effective.
