Love the finish, love the idea of Bernal working the breakaway like he had a shot in hell at winning

He said in the post-race interview "he was working on his self confidence.. (again)" and I absolutely dig that.

If you have a level horizon in the picture, Ala is probably not in it.

e; It's a loving great picture though. including the litlle drying rack in the background.

So why isn't Strade Bianche a monument yet, is it just because the race is too new? It is hard as gently caress and it always owns.

The monuments are literally 100 years older.

also it's like 160km long as opposed to 250km, and "monument" is an unofficial term made up in the 90s or something anyway (because the term "classic" had sort of devolved into "any pro-level one-day race") so who cares

tbh making it 250km is probably easy, it'd be a bit silly to have the entire thing on the gravel roads, so it'd probably be a Paris-Roubaix/RVV thing where the gravel starts after 100km on relatively flat roads or something

The race is good as it is and is only going to attract stronger fields going forward. They're better off concentrating on improving TV coverage and fan areas.

It's going to be every bit as massive as Paris Roubaix regardless of length.

yeah it's ridiculous that coverage starts with like 75km to go or something. I actually missed it this year so I'm not sure if it changed.

at least the Giro is moving to full stage coverage of most stages, though I'm not sure that's a good thing because I'm convinced the "stages need to be shorter!!!!" people are in part because it turns out that watching an entire 240km stage is boring and you don't actually need to watch the first 100 or so after the break successfully forms

There's only four stages in the route this year over 200 km, only one over 220 km. Averages ~180 km a day discounting the time trials.

my thoughts on that involve becoming the Joker, though to be fair last year's route was hardcore and then all the anglo riders QQed about about riding 250km of flat roads

what.
Coverage started with 100km to go this edition, but I think it could sustain a start-finish broadcast like Roubaix and other big one day races.

Dan Lloyd's suggestion was to hold it over two days with the women racing first, would make it a proper boozy cycling weekend destination.
