With The Will has the higher res art for these two here. Shivamon evolves from Shootmon and the two unrevealed perfects.

Surprisingly Premium Bandai USA has started preorders for all the vital bracelets. If I hadn't gotten the veemon one through a no cancellations middleman service this would not have happened.

So will the vital bracelets be available at retail too? In japan, I mean. I’m pretty sure they won’t be in the US, though I guess you never know.

Yeah there's no need to preorder them (for once) unless you really want Veemon or Blackagumon, but the window for those have largely passed anyway. You can definitely afford to wait if you're on the fence.

Adventure 20 episode 39: so this episode wasn't doing any heavy lifting, but on the other hand it had things like the cast actually doing things and cooperating and being put over, and it was a budget friendly episode that didn't look like hot garbage so that's an additional point in its favor. We are also at six of the eight previous episodes actually being pretty good, and if the series continues at this batting average or better it might pull itself up into "decent but flawed" or even "good, but with an incredibly poo poo middle section" and that will be nice.

With a bit of hindsight I'm starting to be a wee bit suspicious of what's going on with the production based on the overall structure of what has been put on screen. I'm starting to get the sense that there's some slap fighting happening behind the scenes because the show has been really inconsistent from arc to arc. The 13ish episodes between Nidhoggmon and Tailmon officially joining up feel markedly different from what came before and what has come after in things like character balance, action to nonaction ratio, and overall quality of writing quite frankly. Heck, the really really disappointing Satellite Sniper episode felt like an episode that had been displaced from that previous portion of the series in all the worst ways.

Also, a serious question, did the show need to bring in WarGreymon as early as they did? Did they actually gain anything from it? Because the fact that Agumon can evolve to Ultimate has not functionally changed how the characters act or really altered the stakes and scale of the series. And I'm not even sure I would mind this if I had the sense this was a deliberate choice done to give the series a different feel from its predecessors and/or was meant to be a message about the potential of all the kids (i.e., they could all reach this level, Taichi did it sooner but that doesn't mean he is inherently better or more special), but I really don't get that on either front. You could easily have swapped around the order of episodes and events and just kept WarGreymon as an earlybird cameo (like they've done with Heracles Kabuterimon and Metal Garurumon) and the show would not have felt much different.

Finally, a real conflict and a villain we can empathize with.

That potato shield was 100% a Mega Man weapon.

This episode was as good as the Mimi one and the new ending is cute.

To answer the first question; no. The show has not benefitted from having Wargreymon show up early. Nor has it benefitted from having Blitzgreymon show up once for even less reason. It was just to hype selling cards with Greymon variants on them.

What puzzles me the most is it felt like the show was gearing up to have those moments of foreshadowing the kids upcoming final stage evolutions. We had Koushiro and Yamato's Digimon get their time in the forefront and then we have Mimi and Joe and....nothing. No flash of Rosemon or Vikemon whatsoever.

I agree with swapping the episode order though. Because every episode since Hikari joined everyone again has that feeling of "Yeah, but they can just bring in Wargreymon." This series doesn't have a limitation on reaching the Ultimate level by sending the partners back to their Baby stage. It never feels like they can't just evolve again as soon as something goes bad.

Joe using Zudomon's hammer was cute though.

A cute character-focused episode? In my Digimon Adventure:?

God, what the hell happened? It's like they suddenly realized they have characters in this series. If only they had done this so much earlier!

Regardless, really nice episode. Lots of Digimon appear, the actual plot is cute, some heartwarming moments happen, and Joe gets to be cool. No complaints from my side! Just keep this up!

Seeing how we're seemingly getting an ep for each character now (ignoring how Koshiro's ep ended up giving Taichi a new Mega for some unexplainable reason) I'm guessing next ep is Sora's, and then we're lacking one for Takeru and Hikari only, who may have to wait for longer since the former doesn't even have a Perfect level yet (because HolyAngemon will definitely be even more busted than in the original Adventure at this rate). Once that's done, I imagine we're going into Mega territory (ignoring the guy that got not one, but two, way too early).

Also this week's art is very cute and worth posting
https://twitter.com/jinke_jinke/status/1368377729259687942

The new ending is also really good! I love the song, both in its lyrics and in the song itself, and the small moments with each character are cute.

Oh, and no ep next week.

I'm not making a fucking QCS thread for this but seriously can we take a harder stance on Kiwifarms freaks like this guy, Jesus Christ seriously, you used to be better at knocking these creeps down. I guess ADTRW mods aren't responsible like GBS mods are.
I originally only got through the first 5 or so episodes before I ended up quitting (Was watching when they aired week to week, so it's been a while) and now that I'm catching up it's so cool that they're making Adventure 20: feel familiar without being a rehash of the original series.

One of my favorite parts so far is that all of the kids have a lot better personalities. Yamoto isn't as cold and brooding as he used to be, Sora takes leadership roles and is basically right behind Taichi and Yamoto, and Mimi is a lot less annoying and pretty sympathetic. Even Ogremon went from being outright evil to just being a bit of a dick who sacrificed himself when he learned he'd been replaced.

Everyone except Joe, who I never really noticed much in the original series but is now the whiniest, most cowardly member of the group and wouldn't have even gotten to Ultimate level in Zudomon's episode if Ikkakumon wasn't holding his hand through everything.

I'm on episode 16, does Joe ever get any better (Or just fade more into the background?)

Joe's great in that he's the 'normal one' of the crew. While the others are gung-ho about saving the world, Joe focuses on studying at first because he's freaked out at being whisked to the digital world and desperately wants some structure in his life. And while the others just accept the Digimon fights like it's no big deal, Joe actually sees the danger they get into and reacts like any kid would, which is why his big character moment was standing his ground from danger in order to protect an injured Sora. It's why I end up really liking Joe and Gomamon's bond, since Joe's just a regular kid who gets paired up with a hotblooded and heroic Digimon who inspires him to be braver than he thinks he could be.

RE: Wargreymon - As cool as the sequence was, I feel like Wargreymon shouldn't have debuted in that forest fight. I get what they were going for; Taichi and Agumon's big character moment was showing courage and not giving up in face of impossible odds. But it would have had a bigger emotional impact if instead they did the whole 'never give up' bit when they were saving Hikari from being taken over by Millenniumon.

This wouldn't have been a bad choice. I had a big long stupid effort post a while back about why episode 30 didn't come together properly, and a big portion of that was just the stakes. Taichi was fighting to protect a bunch of random Digimon from a bunch of other random Digimon, and well that's laudable and what he should be doing as protagonist they did not do enough groundwork to justify what is supposed to be a really huge moment.

The battle in the forest was undercut by framing, it was not built up to, it was not made as important as it should have been, and most painfully it was not all that different from the last couple of episodes that were wall-to-wall action. You can tell what it was supposed to be, and tragically what it was supposed to be absolutely would have held up if all the stuff around it had been done correctly, but it wasn't. Swing and a miss.

If nothing else the last run of episodes have been largely pretty good at least.

So the app for the Vital Bracelet is out in Japan now. Unfortunately, the rumor that there would be a language option in the settings was not true. It's got a lot in it though and really makes me hope that they bring it to the west proper. If you'll forgive the lovely image I also have the silhouette for Pulsemon's final mega. It looks cool.

If you want to spoil yourself on the sprites, a dataminer has already found all the current wave of DiM cards' Digimon:

https://twitter.com/pepper_rocket/status/1102249168905687041?s=20

People think they might be missing one for Gabumon though, he's only got 16 listed while Agumon has 17.

I originally thought I probably would be too busy with the other ones to bother with Pulsemon, but all his ultimates (megas, final forms, whatever) are so dope I don't know which one to run first!

True there's relatively few proper Trash Ultimate stage Digimon but plenty of other Ultimates work just fine for capping off a Trash line

Also a completely unrelated bit of trivia I found out last night, Frogmon is literally the only Armor Digimon to have never been given an official evolution, which is pretty sad for a Digimon that has been around since 2000

Episode 40 and 41 summaries, courtesy of Wikimon:

"Monmon Park in the Mist" (3/28)

Brothers Yamato and Takeru, who go searching for food, wander off into "Monmon Park", an amusement park just for Digimon that lies within dense fog. Yamato and Takeru decide to go play there for a bit for Opossummon's sake, the guide there who was lonely because no visitors came. However, it is a terrifying trap set by Opossummon. They get separated and each fight against an enemy that awaits them. Will they both be able to escape from Monmon Park safely?

"The King of Inventors, Gerbemon" (4/4)

Taichi, Agumon, Koshiro, and Tentomon, who are aboard Komondomon exploring the vicinity, are shocked to see a vast landfill spread out before them. They are further shocked by the presence of Gerbemon, Tyumon, and Raremon, who they encounter there. Raremon is a monster that eats anything. Gerbemon, a scientist who continues to study dark energy, has lost many of its Tyumon subordinates because of Raremon, and has developed a special bazooka to use against it out of revenge. However, when it came to fighting against Raremon, the bazooka was useless, and Raremon completely absorbed the dark energy that filled the area. In addition, it evolves into the Perfect-level Super Raremon and attacks. When all hope is lost, Koshiro devises a strategy.

As a reminder, no ep this week. Ep 39 will air next week.

I haven't read any of the upcoming episode titles or summaries, but with the big shift in writing quality and active use of more of the cast lately, plus the last few episodes feeling like an obvious cycle of post-Ultimate/Perfect character focus episodes, it feels to me like the pandemic must have had a massive impact on production for this show. War Greymon probably had to show up when he did for merchandising's sake, since he's all over the card game and everything else.

Unlikely. Tailmon has Holydramon and Ophanimon as evolutions in the Digivice:, Goddramon doesn't appear at all, Patamon only has Seraphimon.

Whether Tailmon will have both in present time or it's another "Patamon can't become Angemon anymore" situation is yet to be seen, but Holydramon appearing in Adventure: was something we've known for a while since the Digivice: has been followed completely so far (as the otherwise unpredictable Pegasmon and BlitzGreymon confirm)
