I really think attempting to flesh out the world of Dangan Ronda was a mistake. It was a story that worked fine on its own for what it wanted to do, and it even pointed out that the specifics of what brought them there didn't super matter for what they wanted to do. It also turns out that when you fully explore the implications of DR's world, you just get edgelord garbage that thinks saying the word despair over and over is good writing.

Sounds like a problem of scope/slight sequelitis. Still liked both DR1 and Killer Killer a ton, though! Almost as much as AD.

It also turns out that when you fully explore the implications of DR's world, you just get edgelord garbage that thinks saying the word despair over and over is good writing. imo the dumbest part of all the Despair stuff is how just based on dr2 and a bit of dr3, Despair mostly just seems to function as like. evil magic that makes you hosed Up And Do hosed Up Things. like i guess that's the easiest way to explain away everything that happens but it sure makes that entire plot element feel completely divorced from the character writing in a way that, sucks.

I'm enjoying Maoyu: Archenemy and Hero so far (3 episodes in). It scratches that itch that Spice and Wolf does about economics. Not exactly sure where exactly the Maou is pulling all of these new inventions, farming techniques, and other improvements from though. Is she just supposed to be a genius or has she found a secret stash of long lost information?
