That may have been him, yeah. I know ESPN and CBS were also ready to throw obscene amounts of money at :manning: too.

Yes. Brees going to NBC has been reported since at least early last offseason, if not further back. I forget the timing of it, but he and Tirico are the presumptive replacements for Michaels and Colinsworth on SNF, who I think only have a year or two left each and IIRC Al has been hinting at retiring for a little bit now.

Brees seems like a time bomb to say something really dumb about some Facebook post he believes, but I wish him the best I guess.

Don’t forget “former USC QB” because Pat Haden was probably the longest Notre Dame color guy on NBC.

Things continue to get worse for Pac-12 Network

SJ Mercury News posted:

The Pac-12 Network (the national network) now has just 14.8 million subscribers, according to Dec. ’20 estimates provided to the Hotline by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

That figure represents a drop of 17 percent over the past two years, based on S&P data: In Feb. ’19, the national network had 17.9 million subscribers. (At its peak five years ago, it had more than 19 million.)

In comparison, the Big Ten and SEC networks are believed to have more than 50 million subscribers.

Awful Announcing posted:

For context: the last widely reported batch of carriage numbers we got came two years ago in April of 2019. Of the major networks listed in that report, only four had under 40 million subscribers: BeIN’s Spanish and English networks, ESPN Deportes, and Fox Deportes. The declines across all networks have increased since, but the Pac-12 Network wasn’t exactly decreasing from a place of strength.

(Also putting this out there without comment: a month ago, ESPN+ reported 12.1 million subscribers)

They’re a little longer than before but not by much. The last Fox, CBS and NBC deals were all done during the 2011 season and were set to expire after next season, for example, as getting the lockout resolved before the contracts needed renewed was a part of everything.

It was kind of funny at first because he so obviously didn't give the slightest poo poo about what he was talking about and was just there to generate reactions noting that, but that joke wore thin really damned fast.

Replied in the Serie A thread but I hve to make it here that this is ridiculously low for a league that has loving Cristiano Ronaldo in it. Though given how Juventus operates maybe they already let somebody know that he's gonna be gone in the summer. I'm pretty mad about this, but I guess it was only a matter of time before the sports I care about got balkanized over several streaming services.

I'll say this as someone who follows the EPL and Champions League goings on at just slightly higher than a casual level and will tune into big matches in other leagues like an El Clásico or a random big time match of Serie A or France Ligue 1 I will say the casual viewer does not have Serie A on the radar at all. Most viewers who say, watch EPL matches are obviously very aware of who Ronaldo is but beyond that there isn't much going on.

The increased splintering of every different league to every random streaming service is very annoying but it really doesn't surprise me that Serie A in the United States is pretty much just a nifty addon for the streamers vs a big selling point.

Oh I don't disagree with you at all. It's the leagues fault for not marketing itself as well as the others imo. It's a problem in Italy even.
