Why not just open a can? Is it a price thing?

Yeah. Quality canned dog food is $3 a can at minimum. To feed the two of them would be 4 cans a day for $12 a day. They eat the home cooked food for dinner and get kibble for breakfast. We have a third older dog that needs to eat wet food since she’s missing most of her teeth and it costs twice as much per month to feed her as it does to feed the other two even though she weighs 12 lbs.

Anyway

I'd try it, mostly out of curiosity.

Honestly if they sold mashed potatoes with gravy as a bottled condiment I'd probably buy it.

Canned tomatoes are great and usually better than the fresh ones which were picked green and ripened during shipping.

We make something similar for our dogs that they eat for dinner everyday. Ground beef, red kidney beans, brown rice, carrots, peas, and butternut squash. Crockpot on high for 5 hours. $15 for a weeks worth of dinner for two large dogs. I’ve tried it, it’s perfectly fine just completely unseasoned.

We did something similar for our dog till she passed away back in October, the usual recipe was brown rice, either ground turkey or boiled chicken, and some vegetables(most often canned peas and carrots)

Dietary reasons for one thing, our dog had diabetes for example and this was much cheaper than the pre-made food for diabetic dogs

yeah that's my point

it's perfectly fine and fit for human consumption

but it's also not good

it looks like and contains many of the same ingredients as prison loaf

it is nutritious and edible, but i don't think anyone would ever want to eat it

it would be very demoralizing to be forced to either eat this every day, or starve

but also it isn't bad

I haven't seen one of these in years. My mom used to use one to make hundreds of fancy shaped Christmas cookies, and yes, also to fill deviled eggs. Now i'm wondering what else you could fill it with.

OwlFancier

Does it just extrude whatever you fill it with?

Could you not just load your food into a caulking gun if you want to do that?

Yep, you fill it with food, choose what sort of nozzle/metal screen you want to get the proper extruded shape, and press a button. It is pretty much an electric caulking gun if caulking guns had a bunch of different nozzles to choose from. You could actually fill it with caulk but i'm not sure why you'd ever need caulk to come out in the shape of a tiny christmas tree but whatever. I'm no caulk scientist.

This is a modern version but you can get a good idea of what the end parts looked like. I bet you could get custom ones or maybe 3d print some to get weird shaped cookies.
