Bissel Saga. Opening these fuckers is on par with the Lament Configuration. Basically only one accessible, non-occluded screw allows you to access another in turn, once you can find it, and so on and so on.

Eventually I get to the board and sure enough, the mushy feel of the power button is reflected in the switch feeling like dogshit compared to one on the underside of the board that triggers the carpet shampoo squirter.

https://streamable.com/pss92h

When I jerk my hand away trying to turn it off that's me crossing the contacts on the switch on the underside, hosing my couch down with soap. Annnyway, now I need to decide if it's worth paying $0.30 + 8.99 S&H and waiting two weeks for a single microswitch from like mouser or digikey or just jury-rigging some nonsense myself.

Given that the switch's datasheet said it was good for 10 to the 6 actuations, and given that I'll poo poo my pants right now if that thing has been through even 100 on off cycles since I've had it, I think the smart money is on me doing some dumb nonsense rather than taking a flyer on another piece crap switch.

Don't buy Bissel, gang! Unless you're a pervert freak like me who gets off on spending three days diagnosing a $40 hunk of plastic you bought at Target. In which case, run don't walk.

Soon.

As someone who works in fusion (colloquially known as alchemy) I'm happy to consult. Fair warning, it's already been done, so it's not like we'll get a publication:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synth...20or%20mercury.

So basically we need some mercury impregnated wood and a neutron source. I'll provide the neutrons, you chop down a tree on the edge of a superfund site.

Now all we need is a buyer willing to pay for a block of wood that is 0.0001% gold by weight, heavily radioactive, and the gold will all have re-transmuted within a month or two. Basically, we need someone who is both heavily into gold and also very stupid. I'll take an ad out on OANN.

bitcoin is like the gold standard now- it's too late to get in on the ground floor. other people are already rich with all of the coins, so there's nothing you can do except create a new basis for a new currency. something exotic that people can't just mine from a cave or a gpu or anything. radioactive wood gold will be perfect.

I got a sweet new toilet. Instead of draining down the sides when you flush, there is a channel that shoots out water horizontally and swirls into a vortex to flush it down. It's awesome.

Now I'm going to work on getting new doors that aren't made of cardboard. This is going to be an expensive year.

I've been trying to keep busy. Had quite a few with my friend last night which was probably a bad idea given I got out of the hospital last week for precisely that. But I feel fine now and don't want to again. Lots of chores. I'm going to try crocheting soon. I got Blue Lightning (my scooter) ready yesterday. I had to buy a new air compressor because the little one I had crapped out and drained all of the air from the rear tire. I might go for a ride down by the lake today.

I'm going to go hiking within the next few days. It finally got into the 50s here today. I'm still waiting for Lowe's to call me about my doors. I had the guy come out and measure them Friday I think.

Just keepin' on.

quick edit: Oh. So the VA has a vocational rehabilitation program. I used it once about 10 years ago where they tried to help me to work a small job there at the Seattle VA but I panicked and couldn't do it. Well now they pay for your school. All of it. Not the GI bill. Just the VA paying for all of your school. I'm trying to get a DoD logon since they deleted my last one for some reason. I'm still waiting on getting my identification verified. Then I can apply to the program and maybe they can help me get back into school and doing something with my life. I'm not sure if I'd like software development anymore but I was really good at it when I was in school (4.0s across the board in those classes). That'd be cool.

I'm getting a master's in history right now and it's the best, and worst, degree all at the same time.

It's awesome because the professors just give me a list of books at the beginning of the semester and I've got to email them an analytical essay on each one, followed by a big essay, before the end of the semester. No classes, no fussing, nobody bothering me.

It sucks because if you fall behind on your reading/writing even a tiny amount it will end up crushing you at the end of the semester.

Unsure how this relates to an undergrad, but appreciate the feed back. This is, all, still in the "eh, pretty much sure" phase right now, and, even when complete, I have no desire to APPLY this degree to anything, and so my hope is to go in and just take my existing knowledge, if I can, and apply it where I can. Rather than have some kind of goal in mind. I don't want to teach, I don't want to really DO anything with it, I just want the accreditation. ...I'll take it from there.

Smattering of modern African, Latin American, and European history. Mostly oriented toward colonialism and environmental history. Capstone was on Cherokee land use. BAs are broad and designed to teach you how history functions as a discipline. A masters is usually more focused on directing those skills toward a specific topic for research purposes.

I know a lot about early European history currently, as well as middle- U.S. history (ie the Civil War) and feel like I can parlay some of that knowledge into helping me into/out of some potential classes, but isn't what I'd like to focus on simply because "LOL YUP ROMANS AND THE CIVIL WAR" aren't exactly unique selling points. Then again, I'm not really LOOKING to make this a unique selling point, so I don't know why I don't go all in, other than I might be able to dive head full on into local Pre-Columbian North American Cultures, which would fascinate me. That, however, is so far cart-ahead-of-horse that I don't want to go there.

So just imagine I just made a gigantic farting noise and everyone said "Oh that guy" instead.

Early US history is pretty drat interesting, and provides a lot of missing context in seeing how things are now. Like before the American Revolution up through the early Federal years, the development of several different slave economies in the South, and various international conflicts and intrigues at play.

The stuff closest to the camera is Cedar, I think maybe Western Red, and the stuff furthest away seems to be Douglas fir. I think. But now that I've cut them both I am wondering if it isn't just a lighter colored Cedar of some sort. I got my Appleseed Project rifleman badge!!!

I'm super excited. Appleseed is a revolutionary war org that promotes marksmanship. This is my 3rd event. The first time I went it was maybe 45F and raining and I was just caked in mud. My shooting mat still has mud on it from that event. The second time it was 30F and snowing. This time it was 40F and muddy as poo poo too due to rain. So it isn't super fun being outside for 9 hours standing, sitting, and laying in a bunch of mud. But it was worth it! I always learn a lot. We spend all day learning about all the different aspects of marksmanship. We also hit up a lot of what happened on April 19th, 1775 where the first shots rang out in the revolutionary war. That's their whole deal. It's actually pretty interesting and they are very much not a bunch of chuds. Or at least they hide it extremely well. It sounds stupid but I'm really sore from doing all of that. Especially my neck. Plus my eyes are just strained to poo poo by the end of the day.

Anyway, I finally got enough shots on the right part of the target out to a simulated 500 yards I think. We shoot at 25 meters but the different target sizes simulate different distances. Most ranges don't go out near that far.

For the qualification target on the left, the top target is standing, next row is sitting, 3rd row is to start from standing and quickly transition to prone, and last is prone. It's all timed so you have to be on the ball.

The target on the right is another simulated one that we shoot one at the beginning and one at the end to see how we've improved. I got them all on this last one.

There is a second day tomorrow but I'm in pain and don't know if I want to do all of that again out in the cold for 9 hours.

Either way, I'm so excited! I worked towards something and I accomplished it. :unsmith:
