The previz for the jungle chase is online, and even though it's sub-PS2 level in terms of the models, it's actually more realistic in one respect because it at least shows the jeeps all bouncing about as they plough through the unexplored jungle, rather than gliding along a conveniently wide and smooth dirt track.

I first saw it as an adult and loved it. It just starts at a full 100% and then never lets up. One of the few times it feels like Spielberg just let his id run wild in a film. That said, it's definitely the most racist Indiana Jones movie.

As someone who saw Temple of Doom at a very young age, Short Round actually does work really well as a way for a kid to feel more "involved" in Indy's adventures. Like, it's much easier to imagine that you're the kid who tags along with Indy as opposed to trying to imagine you're Indy himself. And that also made the cultist scenes pretty scary because now Indy is brainwashed and he's all evil and nobody is going to save us from getting our hearts snatched out of our chests.

I definitely spent way more time daydreaming about fighting alongside Indy in that huge amazing set with the giant skull face than I did any other scenario from the trilogy.

I loved Temple of Doom until I was older and realized it's pretty loving racist. I haven't watched it in a very long time. Short round doesn't really escape the stereotyping. Just off the top of my head I remember him saying "It's feels like we're walking on fortune cookies." when they're in that cave with all the bugs. that's slightly less terrible when compared to the rest of the movie, but it's still not good.

Anyway I imagine that's also going to affect other boutique print-on-demand releases that were supposed to be coming out. The Severin Andy Milligan Collection is supposed to release soon, may be delayed then, but it's not like I haven't already been buying a ton of other movies.

My Gattaca 4K Steelbook arrived, the disc was loose inside the sealed case. Thankfully it seems ok, saw no scratches or damage, tested the disc and it was fine. Not sure how good this transfer is based on a brief watch of a random scene, grainier than I expected given the age of the film but I'm not a grain hater per se. Interested to see what Blu Ray scores it.

Rat Race is the conclusion to all those movies using All Star in them because they finally had the actual band show up. In a way it was also the perfect send off to the pre-9/11 era.

Crumb didn't like the original Fritz. It's not a "fun" movie, cuz it takes a pretty dark turn and keeps getting darker. It's a cynical look at the counter-culture of the 1960's. The film does a lot to show it doesn't endorse Fritz is a terrible privileged rear end in a top hat, but it's more of a picaresque tale with that as the central character. It's still a movie where a cop is a pig with a small cock, but the crows are straight out of Dumbo.

You can watch it on Amazon Prime to see if you like it.

I never saw the sequel, which I hear is more of a straightforward animated sex comedy? Bakshi wasn't involved and Crumb didn't like it and everyone I read preferred the original.
