Grouchio has spoiled another major plot point. He can survive one more day. Grouchio, luckily I have already had that spoiled for me, but I would really put a note that it's a LN spoiler outside of your spoiler tags so someone will know to skip reading it if they're not caught up on the LN.

A lot of good Emilia this episode. "This must have been really hard on your mother" was a great line.

So I wonder how exactly they are going to solve the rabbit problem. They seemed to indicate that they all need to die at once and if you leave any left over they will eventually recover their numbers. I would assume that means some sort of huge explosion that wipes them all out at once and given their nature they are drawn to big mana sources. Does that mean that Puck or someone is going to need to draw them all into one spot and then detonate some sort of bomb there?

My assumption is that at the beginning of next episode: Betty probably blows them up. Or Mathers does if he snaps out of it. Puck is presumably out of action until tomorrow drat you once per day magic items!!!! Those two are pretty much your two options with the pieces we currently know are on the board.

I was expecting it to be Emilia and Roswaal working together to take them all out at first, but clearly he's not really willing to do that right now. Betty being here helps give a solution for both of those things very handily; she can work with Emilia to fend off the rabbits and possibly also get Roswaal back to normalcy-for-Roswaal. Maybe in time for him to realise the seriousness of this predicament, so he can do a big fire magic thing in combination with Emilia's ice.

Wait, I thought 'That person' meant a romantic lover/soulmate. Betty described it as "Someone who will put me before anyone else." But Echidna's specific description of that person was "Someone suitable for inheriting my knowledge will come for you." So why couldn't Subaru be that person without having to betray his feelings for Emilia? Heck Roswaal sounded like a pretty ideal that person as he was regularly in the library anyways. Also gently caress you Roswaal if you were going to use the library at least keep her company for a bit even if just as a kindness for your wifu's daughter/creation.

Subaru is a pretty cool guy. That pan over to Subaru holding Beako's hand when he had it outstretched nearly the whole scene prior at the end was super cute.

MonsterEnvy posted:Here is hoping we don't have a four year wait for Arc 5. Thankfully, it's a different situation. When the first season aired, the last volume of the third arc came out a few weeks after the anime ended. I hadn't checked in a while, but it looks like the sixth arc is concluding this month in Japan, so the anime is two arcs behind instead of completely caught up. They might try and pace things out a bit though, just because there is pretty much not anything of substance written for the 7th arc yet, I don't believe. (I stopped following spoilers after the 4th arc, so I don't know the details)

The only halfway-decent fan translation stopped after arc 4, and official English releases are even further behind, so yeah I'm really looking forward to seeing 5 in a format that isn't gibberish.

I think some people working in the production must be assuming they'll get a season 3, because otherwise it seems weird to introduce the whole "Rem's in a coma" plotline and then spend the rest of the double-length season doing something else.

Comarem was still important for the plot, it's hard to write around that. It would also make things more complicated if they get a third season. So (I presume) they just followed the LN. About Echidna: So she had actually brown eyes and a slightly longer face?

Hogama posted:The first LN volume of Arc 7 is just releasing (not sure if it's a midnight release or whatever but it's out the 25th which is technically now in Japan) but as I'm given to understand with no spoilers, it's pretty much a "prologue" volume. Up until Arc 6 (which took FIVE YEARS to conclude), Tappei's writing pace seems to have been roughly a year per web novel arc starting with Arc 3 (the first two Arcs were mere months but they're also the shortest), but Arc 6 was also the time frame for when the series first got licensed, so there were other concerns vying for attention. Right, he basically had to hurry up and rewrite the first five arcs for light novel publication before finishing the sixth, so it's really up in the air how fast things are going to move now that the Web Novel and Light Novel are finally equalized.

I read that Arc 5 is a bit shorter than Arc 4. So it should fit into a 2 cour season like this one did I think.

Whatever that may mean. I've not read any of the LN or anything but: Given what Betty and Roswal were talking about, how you needed a compatible vessel to transcribe the soul, not an empty vessel, probably what happened was Echidna was attempting to transcribe her soul into an empty vessel which looks like the one in the windows XP background, but it failed due to it being empty. Her soul, being caught in between dying from Satella and without a valid vessel to go to, was left with no where to go. The body in repose was probably her actual body in life.

Every time he cast magic, it was while holding her hand or carrying her. That's probably got something to do with it. Speaking of, I was not expecting the solution to the rabbits be trapping all of them in a pocket dimension, where they devour each other endlessly. That's kinda hardcore, but it also means there's gotta be stopping it being an instant win button from now on.

There was a scene from the WN that explains all this as part of the epilogue for this arc, that I honestly thought would be in the episode. I don't know if it's in the LN or not though, but I imagine it's still accurate. WN/Possibly Deleted Scene Spoiler: Basically at the end of this arc Betty goes up to Subaru and is like, "Hey it's really cool that we're contracted and all, right? Definitely no regrets?" and then a bit later "See, Betty is kinda...high maintenance for a spirit. I need tons of mana to do my thing. I've been stealing mana here and there for the last 400 years but I kinda blew it all in the big fight, y'know? Normally it's the job of the spirit contractor to supply their spirit with mana, but your gate is broken and you can barely generate any mana anyway, so..." Subaru: "So basically you're saying you're pretty much useless now" Betty: "Oopsie!"

So, this last episode. It was entirely positive, no sad feels at all. The plot points got resolved, Subaru is a knight now, the gang gets larger. It was a clean finish for the relatively slow season. I wonder if this momentum is going to keep up, because it does feel very different from the earlier episodes. I need to continue reading the LNs...
