Living the Dream
Kengan has mostly sided with the superior martial artist when it comes down to a match of real skill, so I'm kinda leaning towards Hayami losing since he's repeatedly admitted he's outmatched in Judo. Also Hayami saying Juroka isn't as scary as his brother seems like another loss flag I think since all of this mostly points to Juroka being the guy who levels up. Hayami is basically just getting sandbagged still, and Juroka I'd bet money has a one-armed throw for just this sort of occasion, or some way of dealing with it. Getting your arm broken as a judo specialist is a worst-case scenario you'd imagine a perfectionist focused entirely on that special martial art would prepare for.

Remember how Koga's karate master uncle said that biting is a fearsome finishing move?

Jurota's gonna reveal that he can throw with his teeth.

jurota is probably invincible under judo rules. unfortunately, he is instead competing in an underground fighting tournament filled with assorted freaks and murderers.

All 3 characters who have tried biting in a fight have lost, 2 of them died.

I mean Jurota hesitated when he thought Masaki was going to throw him just by grabbing onto his pants with his toes, so the fact that he thinks Masaki can do it (though he may have been overestimating Masaki's skills) means that there's a good chance that Jurota himself can pull it off.

Translation is up on Hokuto no Gun's discord but Holy poo poo is this an upset. On the one hand this was a good fight and actually unpreditable but on the other the No. 2 of purgatory still lost however dominant he was in the fight itself which is still disappointing. I was really rooting for Jurota here.

Also why does Hayami want to induce Meguro's personality in Clone Meguro? He already has an amazing fighter on his hands that has all the strength of Meguro's strength but none of his weaknesses or instabilities. That's back asswards thinking.

Yeah I don't get the huisheng thing but Melty Face is a man addicted to super villainy so I guess trying to induce the psychosis of a man noted for patricide in his super fighter is kinda on brand.

Cool fight though!

Hayami explicitly said his goal was to get masaki’s strength without his madness so it’s definitely the Worm doing this

I think framing Katsumasa in the end panels implies it's his doing. Plus he is the one invested in perfecting Masaki I don't know why the worms would bother with this especially when it's the Wu clan tradition being used here.

ok yeah that makes perfect sense why he's listening to the earbuds, Alan was just a setup character to foreshadow this twist. Honestly I'm cool with Jurota losing to the actual Meguro Masaki. That feels pretty well earned and I absolutely love the direction they took his character. Good to see them touch on Rino being Katsumasa's daughter again as well.

He has all of Meguro's strength because he already is Meguro, just implanted into a (comparatively) mentally stable vessel. He was trying to implant the personality without the mental illness, and it seems like he already succeeded.

i really don't get why the 'perfect meguro' would include all the instability that held him back. in ka meguro was a middling fighter who had the poor luck of fighting someone who perfectly countered him. muteba loving wrecked meguro with little difficulty, but any of the fighters willing to cripple or kill their opponent could have probably beaten him. so i guess hayakawa has built a fighter who is perfect for facing the few decent human beings to be found in various underground fighting orgs but not particularly effective against baki-esque martial arts psychopaths. what the heck is the point of that?

Hayami thought he legitimately had a shot of overthrowing the KA when Metsudo was toying with him the entire time. The man is not very smart

Hayami stated meguro without the madness was what he wanted and that although the worm used him it was worth it. it makes no sense for him to be responsible

but i agree with the comment that he's a dumbass

Sure, except the personality component he's implanting into Hayami is the confessions of a 13yo that murdered his father and judo partners and the end result is that yes Hayami is stable for now but looks like he's also going full crying man which is a no no. I honestly thought for a moment when Rino showed up that they were using her voice on loop to keep hayami from becoming completely unhinged and the twist would be that they did alter his brain so that Rino's commands can work more than once and he needs a constant drip feed to not lose himself to the madness.

I think he wanted the mental state / drive / determination to kill while at the same time keeping Masaki's intellect intact so he could fight more strategically. At some point Meguro went from being able to present himself as a normal member of society on the outside as a kid to unhinged murdering murder with nothing but murder on his mind, so presumably Hayami wanted the former.

Sure, Masaki took advantage of Jurota's unwillingness to kill him / use non-throwing techniques, but he also managed to level up in this fight, and he's shown the desire to get even stronger.

What Jurota (and probs Hayami) saw in Masaki was his potential.

I mean he's still crazy, but who isn't in this series. Hayami Masaki is currently probably the single most chill and well adjusted fighter in the series when he isn't actually fighting (and even then he's far more level headed and tactical) while still retaining the prodigous martial skill and endurance of Meguro Masaki, so something must be going right. I absolutely love this plotline and I'm fully willing to suspend disbelief on some of the more confusing aspects of Huisheng.

Mostly I just don't like the tongue thing. Maintaining his muppety expression the whole fight even after cracking the ring with his face multiple times was significantly more intimidating then the tongue thing.
