Stanley Kubrick was nominated for a razzie for The Shining. They aren’t punching up or down they’re just lame as hell.

I think Scott has some actual money, but AFAIK, Paul and Lauren are essentially just working actors which means they are like upper middle class but get some weird quirky perks like swag.

Very, VERY odd to nominate Lauren for a razzie. As far as I know....she's mostly been a bit actress in a few things. Like she was in that Pete Holmes show...and I remember her having a small part in Jurassic World....but that's who they are going to single out? That movie wasn't even that bad. Not good or anything....but not that bad. And the reviews that I saw for it made sure to highlight Lapkus. Just a lazy nomination for a "who cares" award.

The whole point of the Razzies or what they should be doing is punching up not down so they should never have unrecognizable names on there. Famously awful performances like Halle Berry in Catwoman or J Lo in Gigli 100% should be nominated for dross performances. These are celebs who have the world at their feet and have endless money and fame, its good we have the anti Oscars for them which is all about sucking up to overpaid beautiful people.

Lauren shouldn't have been nominated because I'm sure there are a ton of A list celebs that put in absolutely shocking performances but for example if David Spade was awful in that film he should be.

Edit: like ideally though theyre awful you wouldn't nominate The Room or Birdemic for a Razzie which as far as I know we're never nominated. They go after the big budget trash like some lovely Adam Sandler cash in or whatever.

Ding ding ding. Exactly.

I remember an early episode of Stay F Homekins where Paul and Janie were talking about a group vacation they had taken in the past and how the planning for those can be a little awkward when most of their friends have so much more money than them.

I also remember either an episode of Threedom or a CBB Best Of where they looked up what Google had as their net worth, and they both laughed when they had Scott's lower than it actually was, but was listed as the same as Paul's, which was higher than it actually was.

Why? I love Jessica. I haven't kept up to date w HDTGM so I don't know if she's become annoying or whatnot. But I've found her to be a good June replacement in the past. I probably even prefer her to June, but I get that she's got different energy.

The Talking Cat episode is good but they're in hot water over it because Jessica St. Clair and Paul were mocking one of the actresses in it, and the specific thing of hers they were mocking was a post she made talking about MeToo stuff happening to her but they somehow didn't realize that. Which seems somewhat related as well to the Razzies talk about punching up, not down.

one of their worst episodes ever, they barely list ANY nba player names. and, on top of that, most of the ones they DO list aren't even active!!! WE WANT PLAYER NAME SPELLING BEE 2.

(i thought it was fine, but i would have honestly preferred my weekly dose of the ones hanging out and barely talking about basketball)

I read a book about counting cards recently, and it made me wonder about some of the stories Scott has told.

Like didn't he say he used to drive to Vegas once a month and regularly make enough money for rent and bills? And that he once took a vacation to Atlantic City where he covered expenses by counting?

Because from what I've picked up, both of those things don't really make sense. There's so much variance in card counting that you need a bankroll 20 or 30 times your target profit, which means he wouldn't need to make money for bills -- he could just pay them out of savings. And apparently there's a law in Atlantic City that says casinos can't bar card counters, which basically means they make it impossible to do (using a lot of decks and shuffling them, as well as restricting the range of bets you can make).

I'm probably not remembering the details of what he said right, so maybe it does all make sense in context. It was just funny to go though this book feeling like the end of the Usual Suspects, piecing together all the things that don't fit.

The only thing I can remember about him mentioning card counting was trying to explain it to the CBB writer’s room when they went to Vegas.

I think he was just talking about using a good strategy, not counting cards.

E: regarding what he told the CBB writers anyway. It would be insane to expect someone to learn to count cards in a day. I can't remember if he said he counted cards himself, but maybe it's more plausible if it was a decade or two ago when casinos had weaker countermeasures

I have nothing to add on this razzies discourse but I do remember the LA Times had a listing for Kulap and Scott's house a year or two ago and it was a nice hollywood hills house. I think they were selling it for a couple million so they're definitely doing comfortably.
