motorhead is probably still hawkwinds best song though.

You didnt ask for a primer and you probably know but start with Space Ritual. The run of records from In Search of Space to Warrior on the Edge of Time is mind-bending

e: one of my quarantine projects last year was to listen to their entire studio catalog and there are scattered moments of brilliance and reinvention later on but I'll save it unless some more hawkheads show up

Same. The best thing that came out of Hawkwind is Lemmy.

That's not to disparage Hawkwind; I'm just not into psychedelic rock as much as I was back in the day.

Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. is also in repose.
Potion's pretty cool. 'Seven Sorcerers/Gravemaker' I felt was a little plain, but 'Women of the Wand' was a good improvement, I thought. Felt like they embraced a little more heaviness on that one. Looking forward to checking this one out.

They are really intense live. the records capture that sound pretty well, just a huge tornado of riffs. I thought they could have improved the production on recordings a fair bit but after seeing them live its a very accurate representation of their sound.

e: VVVV I keep saying that australia has some of the best doom/stoner/psych bands and god drat it I mean it!

Killdozer were one of the earliest bands I think fall into the “sludge” category

I bought this LP at the local record store when it came out in 1987 knowing nothing about it and this song is still great (and funny)

I think the term "important" gets overused in relation to bands and influence but Killdozer were important and I'm so glad I got to see them once in the 90s.

I've been playing Dwaal today and they're pretty good! Comparable in sound to Ahab or Bell Witch, perhaps.

I hadn't really been listening to a lot of music of late except as background noise. Bought some nice over-ear headphones to use at the computer and suddenly music is sounding a lot more interesting to me again than it was on a set of crappy desktop speakers.

Just start her out slow with the first four Sabbath albums and work gradually from there. If she isn't listening to Acid Bath by the time she can read you might want to get some extra tutoring though.

That is pretty cool! For some other brassy doom you also have Ore. Previously mostly a tuba duo, it's now a solo project but he does a lot of interesting collaborations.

e: oh, the death vocals came as a surprise. Not so sure about them tbh
