Gridman only confirmed it was a direct sequel to the live action series in the final episode. What they've said is that the new show is set in the same world as Gridman, and has a few shared conceits, but we haven't seen any cameos or anything yet, and it's probably going to be written to mostly stand alone.

Also, Ian Sinclair showed up as Valley Girl's requisite Absentee Dickhead Father Figure, and apparently the Real Food Wars starts here, because this jackass is now in charge of the school. Fire Force - Sister Iris grapples with the deep-seated crisis of faith that stems from being a clerical member of a religion that she now knows to be a hollow lie. And then suddenly it was just a fuckin' deluge of crankin' and jackin'. No lie. Black Clover Episode 143: The People VS Skullcrusher Mountain - Dietrich has an extended flashback to his youth, in which he squired for Lord Trelwany. S4 Gridman - With the janitorial kaiju having been whacked in the previous episode, the city goes to poo poo as the destruction of the Gridman/kaiju fights is suddenly not being magicked away. Utah is revealed to actually be Gridman himself sort of astrally-projecting into a human body, and Alexis goes all-out by turning Akane herself into a kaiju for the final fight against Gridman and Gridknight. S4 GRIDMAN ENDS TONIGHT It has been 14 weeks since Cowboy Bebop was last on Toonami

i will say, however, that the first act kind of goes at breakneck pace to bring you up to speed on how the world is doing, and it maybe doesn't do so gracefully. you kind of have to hang on to the lap belts and just hope the movie knows what it's doing
