ANT never bothered dealing with it and now I have a Xenon K right at a gate which gets me stuck every so often. I should clean it up at some point :v:

If you're trying to get spacefly eggs I've had a lot of luck just hanging around the HQ and periodically giving a scout instructions to pick up drops in the area. NPC mining will cause unstable crystals, lodestones, and spacefly eggs to periodically drop, but only if it's the local sector.

If you seta in a sector where there is a lot of mining happening you can come back a few minutes later to a map full of eggs floating in space and collect them and dip. It think it's more lucrative than hunting for crystals tbh.

How the hell is hop so powerful? The have managed to clear faulty logic, and are now pushing into ANT space while holding back PAR and assaulting their stations. I started the TER vs ARG war because I thought HOP might need some breathing room in their holy war, but now I think I made a mistake.

HOP have a good set of core systems and they are also extremely militaristic, and will try to build a lot more ships than other factions because they're at war with everyone.

Do you put station traders in your station or just let the ai come and buy?

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

The AI does most of the sales and actually I have been having some trouble getting my traders to do much trading lately, not sure if it's a mod issue. I assigned a couple using the mule script though and they shift goods well. 90% AI though, they happily come and buy and often get into fights with each other because the HOP and PAR both try to buy from the same station lol.

I set up a small distribution point in Two Grand to try and sell some stuff to ZYA that I produce at the main factory in grand exchange, used mule traders to supply it but you could use repeat orders too. The ZYA send ships to it to pick up ship components because they're out of range of the main factory.

Well it took some extra AI traders since my miners steadfastly refuse to touch Helium but I've got a claytronics facility! It's gotten 600k so far.

No one's really buying much of anything at the moment though, but everything's making money or turned a profit by now besides it and the facility only really cost me 20-25 mil with the miners anyway (and it's getting there!). I regret my peaceful ways :v:

That stat is currently a hidden stat that even rogueys or the encyclopedia doesn't list. But terran have the fastest spoolup/charge time while split has the longest due to their high top speed. Also ship mass and engine size affect it too.

Nobody: So Travic. What did you do with your Sunday afternoon?

Me: I nerded out and tested engines in X4!

Nobody: *vomit*

Soooooo I've just done some very simple testing on a few ships and it seems like the L ship spool up times are static. I've tested Teladi and Argon engines. Both Travel and All-Round engines. I've tested the Phoenix, Behemoth, and Odysseus, and Shuyaku (high mass test) both Vanguard and Sentinel variants. It's always 20 seconds. It needs more testing, but yeah.

Yep. Checked Split and Paranid for both Travel and All-round. Always 20 seconds. Now to start on XL.

Pilfered from a thread on the Egosoft forums, someone already did this for vanilla awhile back and put it in a google sheet here.

What I find most interesting are the attack and release times, which represent the time it takes to fully accelerate/decelerate from boosting or travel mode (two different stats for each). Combat engines are better than all-around engines are better than travel engines, and by a pretty huge margin.

Also, L and XL travel engines apparently have no redeeming qualities compared to their all-around counterparts.

OwlFancier

I think from personal experience large travel engines have a slightly higher max travel speed but generally your large ships spend a lot more time maneuvring at low speed and accelerating, so those are by far the more useful stats.

Well would you look at that. That's exactly what I was planning on doing. Well I was only going to do Mass, Drag, Spoolup, and Thrust since I'd have to do it by hand but drat that's nice.

Thank you :)

Ultimately what I'm trying to do is set up a spreadsheet where I pick a ship and get a graph of the acceleration curves for the different engines. Probably just the highest mark since that's simpler.

Acceleration between different types (AA/TRV/COM) is equal. ARG/PAR/TEL are either identical in acceleration, or close enough not to matter. From my testing, SPL were about 25% slower to accelerate, TER were 100% faster. Decel the engines vary a fair amount but that stat is actually directly visible.

Trade station is a cool idea Owl, I'll try that. I want to get a trade fleet running moreso because I like the idea of it rather than it being optimal. But trade stations as distribution hubs fed by mules in key sectors seems like it'll work well.

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

I am liking stations because you don't strictly need to do the last mile yourself, you can just ship crap over there to the general vicinity and people come and buy it. It's also a good use for large transport ships because you can lug a huge pile of poo poo over there and then all the little ships can buy it up, while you use the cargo storage of the station to even it out.

If you're doing a pure station to station run you can also make sure your ships are running safe routes too, which is sometimes useful.

Will terran traders dock at your stations even if you're not allowed to dock at theirs? I mean i managed to drag my rep up past -10 so it's not an issue for me, but it seemsl ike useful information for other people/if I do another playthrough with a different start.

Is there a not-imposible way to fix -30 rep with a faction? Like, lets say I diceded I'm the owner of some sector where PAR has 20ish stations, and I end up removing said stations. Destroying criminal mass traffic will give you small amounts of rep even if they are completely hostile. if you can get them to give you missions, that will work too. I'm not sure that works at -30 though.

tl;dr, they can forgive murdering tens of thousands as long as you issue enough traffic tickets

Zereth
Jul 9, 2003

Missions to go to a station and hand out "traffic tickets" :blastu: seems to be a good way of getting rep fast, too. You get the rep for each ticket and the mission. Took me form like -11 to -6 rep with Terrans in one mission.

I've also seen missions from a faction's enemy turn up by scanning the radio things outisde the faction's station, maybe you could do some of those.

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

You can also get quite a bit of rep by destroying their enemies near their stations, which scales with the danger level of what you destroy, so if you have a decent fleet then grab a destroyer, set the guns to only fire on your target, and go blow up some xenon on their frontier.

Admittedly harder with the PAR because I don't think they actually have a xenon frontier but you could fight the HOP and they will like you for that.
