So...

I think it's pretty common now. For the drag race historians out there, is there a season where this became more pronounced? I wanna say season 7 but it's been so long, I could be misremembering.

I think it really started with Courtney on 6, but I feel like I only started noticing it around season 9? 7 and 8 had a lot of lowrent runways still, Violet and Fame aside (though Violet probably made most of her outfits herself)

what a humorous anecdote.
It definitely wasn't season 4, that was still very much mall girl chic, I think season 5 had a few very Produced looks (Coco's orange ruffle sleeve thing jumps to mind) and I think it was just the queens with prior success in season 6 who had them. Nowadays a bunch of queens will take out loans so they can get a bunch of looks tailor made for them ahead of time because they know they'll be able to pay them off with the booking fee bump they can take.
Sherry Pie got all her looks from the same designer and he was hopping mad when her runway was edited out of the Frozen episode.

Kandy in the top 4  The eliminations have been rigga morris this whole season. I’m over it.

I feel like Symone is getting the winning edit here, no complaints, but I think Rose is amazing. I think Rose’s only downside is that she didn’t struggle in any of the challenges. Ru seems to like seeing someone nearly crack and then power through.

Bianca and Violet are 2 queens I can think of that just stayed in the winning lane the entire competition. Sasha? Aquaria. Okay nvm maybe Rose has a good shot.

Rose or Symone. That’s all.

Violet stumbled here and there, but tbh that's more on the lovely set of challenges than her (or any of the queens for that matter)

I do think it comes down to between Symone and Rose but to be frank Rose's fashion choices... have had a lot of misses, so Symone gets my vote.

Bianca, yes. Violet, no. Violet was middle of the pack the majority of the competition. Bob was definitely in the winning lane the entire season. Same with Raja. I'm not sure Aquaria was for sure in the winning lane, but she was definitely up there. Sasha, I disagree with. I think Shea was for sure going to take the crown that season until Sasha blew everyone away with her finale lip syncs.

Winning lane was probably not the correct term. Like Bianca and Aquaria, Violet and Sasha never lip synced, so they were never really in danger on their season. Bob and Raja both had a slip up near the top and ended in the bottom 2*, similar to Jinxx and Sharon, so we get to see them sweat a little bit before winning.

*Shea definitely got that very edit and I thought for sure she had it in the bag. But then someone had to get so emotional, baby. 🥀

These days they generally work with drag specialist designers rather than fashion house designers, but the distinction there has less to do with talent and more to do with how mainstream the designers are. :)

Speaking of drag specialist designers, check out Joshuan Aponte and JForPay, two of Chicago’s finest designers :)

Yeah, most queens come with designer wear now. It's how you gotta play the game!
The real fun fact is that production takes photos of every queen in every look prior to filming starting, so they can choose the runway of the week when they know a particular queen has a good/bad look and nudge them in the direction they want :eng101:

Rose is the more well rounded queen because you can expect her to do at minimum decent in any challenge while Symone has more wow moments (both bad and good). So of course Symone is going to win.

Is next week the finale? Or are they going to continue to torture us and drag this out?

I also looked to check to see when All-Stars 6 premieres (which, reminder it'll be exclusive to Paramount+ and will not air on VH1), and while there is no date, apparently we have yet ANOTHER RPDR spin-off: Queen of the Universe. It's billed as a Eurovision style international drag race competition. This is apparently separate from RPDR All-Stars International.

Well it was pretty obvious that it was either going to be Olivia or Kandy going home and equally obvious that they were going to do anything they could to keep Kandy, so this week was a foregone conclusion. I do have to admit that Olivia's sweetness, which I initially found very charming, has gotten pretty cloying and I'm kinda fine with not seeing her for a while.

My preference would be for the crown to go to either Symone or Mik but I wouldn't be mad if Rose got it either. At this point I'm assuming Kandy will win though, because why the gently caress not.

I just checked the RPDR Facebook page and half of the replies to every post is "what is Kandy still doing here", so I guess it's not just us.

Oh you know Ru will draw this out.

Next week will be the song challenge. Get ready for some uninspired lyrics about the crown, throne or making it to the top.

The week after the reunion. It will be the Kandy Muse show.

The week after that, some sort of finale.

Mind you, with covid things may have of changed.

It's because they need a big girl in the top 4 every season until one is actually good enough to win. I don't think Silky belonged there either. (Eureka's a little more debatable but she definitely lost that lip sync against Kameron.)

they don't necessarily want a big girl to win, they just want to keep the fanbase happy and a big girl winning might help with that.

Pork Chop is the ultimate big girl winner. she's in nearly every season!

Oof. None of those names are particularly exciting to me. They really ought to only do one All Stars every five years or something because at this point it just feels like a random draw from the list of queens who haven't been on All Stars yet.

Rupaul's Drag Race: Rudemption would make a far more interesting show than what All-Stars has become
Bring back a set of queens that went home 1st to say, 3rd? 4th? And let them have another shot

Those queens would be THIRSTY FOR IT
