My dad had cancer. I spent 7 days a week tending to him for the last 3 months of his life. He got covid and at his diagnosis we had our last real honest talk where he was all there. We loved each other more than anyone could imagine. He became "confused" shortly after and spent pretty much the last week of his life cursing me for abandoning/betraying him. Not only that but he also called every single relative and told them I had betrayed him and that I had stolen from him and that I was keeping him locked up and that they needed to come save him. (he was in the covid section and not even I was allowed to visit him) I had taken his car keys for obvious reason. And several of our relatives believed him and do to this day so it pretty much shattered our extended family.

I haven't listened to the two most recent Sex Archie episodes so I dunno if he gets put on a bus and never seen again in the rest of the show but it's kinda nuts that General Ironicus is now doing two regular series that feature a good and bad Chad in them. (FF7 Remake/Riverdale)

Thanks for giving me a new podcast to listen to.
Riverdale has always been all over the place, but woooo this season is just one big whiplash. Every episode has like 6 genres and for the first 20 minutes of every episode my brain says that I skipped an episode because its so disjointed and the sense of time is non existent. This was only made worse this season because I got used to ignoring that the actors are 10 years older than their characters, only for them to do a 10 year time skip without changing the way they look. It makes them seem like babies cosplaying their actors actual ages. :psyduck:

Mike seems like good people. I have a feeling though that like a lot of crime YouTubers a lot of his research, though well presented, is fairly surface level. But that only comes through when people talk about a case that you might be somewhat familiar with. He's better than a lot of others I've watched though.

Watching it unfold in real time, the coverage of the Grace Millane trial was pretty loving gross. Like, I honestly didn't need to know about her sexual proclivities, and it's loving pathetic that our press chose to focus on that. The coverage had a definite undertone of "ooh, look at this harlot of a slut, she did THE SEX!" running through it, with little to no self-reflection on our appalling sexual assault and domestic violence statistics. That kind of poo poo would require at least an hour or two to actually really drill down into though, and I guess it's going to be a difficult topic to broach for some Irish guy living on the other side of the world.

I honestly thought he would get off, the coverage had so thoroughly astroturfed the idea of death by sexual misadventure rather than talking about how he beat off to porn and went on a date in between murdering her and disposing of the body. I can't even remember if the fact that he had a history of non-consensually choking his partners came out before or after the trial, but who cares, let's just take the accused's word for it that she wanted it. loving shameful.

I've dreaded looking this up, but I was relieved to see he was at least imprisoned for life. Though I also learned the UK doesn't have preventive detention anymore, which is a shame. I really wouldn't feel save in a land where a disgusting peace of poo poo like this could just walk free without checking if he can actually fit into society again. (Our own version of preventive detention has doctors checking a dangerous offender's mental health in regular intervals. So in this case, if the fucker can't convince his doctors that he is, in fact, not searching for some more women to murder as soon as he walks out, German law would keep someone like him just locked up indefinitely, independent from the actual sentence.)

The only thing I don't like about his channel is the music is atrocious.

I stumbled upon a podcast/channel called Lights Out Podcast over the weekend and I was surprised that even a new true crime channel can get six figure views per video I figured the market was saturated - then I saw they also do a bunch of supernatural stuff but I also figured that market was saturated. They aren't actually good and they've made a bunch of factual errors in the episodes I've listened to and their McVeigh episode drove me nuts because the guy kept calling the Murrah building the "Murry" building. They got a pretty dece studio though.

i think i prefer atrocity guide style narration where it's a bit dryer than someone tryin' to apply the 'humorous video essay' format to murders of real people. any true crime that's more in the former category?

It's buttfucking insane, though not always in a good way. I will maintain that season 1 is a mostly well-done, tight murder mystery that wraps up fairly well, with diminishing returns every season afterwards. I fell off a few months before the pandemic started, though it sounds like the time skip helped a lot of things out.

Meh. All the main characters have all broken up with each other so instead of having every episode split in like 3 stories (because the couples would usually do stuff together), every episode now has like 6 different plots. Usually there would always be this one eerie main plot (cult, drug fueled D'n'd murders, serial killers, boarding school sociopaths, snuff movies, gangs, incest) lingering behind it all tying everything together, but that seems to be missing. And somehow both the serial killer and mothman/alien plots are so boringly done and far removed from everything else that they take a backseat to art forgery, starting a football/cheer team and a character making their own currency with her high school students. The show has always been a bit exhausting, but this season had my eyes glaze over more than usual.

Riverdale used to own because it just spiraled almost right away into, even by CW standards, one of the most soap opera shitshows that seems to actively revel in looking at every single situation and finding the most hack option for every story beat ever.

Now it sucks because the timejump was needless and broke everything up into parts way weaker than the sum of them. It's fun to see like...two, maybe at most three, storylines done the most stupid fanfic possible routes but now it's like six and I don't even loving CARE that MOTHMAN is in the mix now. That's how bad it is now, they got straight up Mothman hijinks and I'm all 'pass'.
