Have we talked posters in this thread? I’m trying to find basically this poster: https://www.overstock.ca/Home-Garden/Poster-Print-entitled-Alien-1979-Multi-color/25365055/product.html But able for me to purchase in the US. I can’t find it aside from v questionable reprints, etc. I used to have this exact poster back in 07 but lost it along the way.

Are we actually getting a good physical release of Drunken Master 2 in the US? Seems like a weird get all of a sudden but I'll take it.

The fact that home video standard doesn't include regular subtitling and closed captioning is nonsense. Looks like it's still just the one cut though. The Japanese version comes with 4 different cuts of the film - the Hong Kong cut, the international cut, the US cut and the Japanese theatrical cut. Considering that Warner released that one as well, it's absurd that despite having access to all those different versions, they withhold the majority of it for international audiences. Like seriously, get to gently caress with that poo poo.

Yeah I really don't think I'm going to miss the intros. I have them on vol 2. They're fun but nothing that makes the set significantly more/less desirable.

Yea that video is a classic. It's not the selection of movies, it's the fact that he needs to have ten copies of the same stuff just with different packaging. Like, if he took the money he spent on buying redundant copies of lovely movies he could actually flesh that collection out to where it would be more wide-ranging and comprehensive. I own plenty of lovely movies myself of course, including Marvel stuff and all sorts of other things but I actually watch everything I own and I don't have stuff in my collection that has no function other than to just sit on a shelf looking pretty.

Yeah, I just bought Mr. Majestyk and am excited to get Silent Rage and Blind Fury, so I'm not necessarily raising my nose towards owning whatever movie. It's having 9 copies of Beerfest in mint condition that's insane. I remember seeing someone on a different website who had bought every single release of IT Chapter 1, before Chapter 2 came out. We're talking a dozen variations, some expensive releases included, of just IT. And it's like...Pick the best release, or maybe two with covers you like, and enjoy those. It was their favorite movie, so okay, that's cool, but buying every single release of it just seems bizarre. Cloks posted:I own most of these but in my defense, i bought the Harry Potters for my fiancee years ago. Suuuuuuuure you did. There's nothing wrong with owning any/all of them. When I see people self-declare themselves as "cinephiles", a term I don't like, this isalmost always what I'm seeing. I shouldn't expect everyone to buy the Fellini box, but it's still funny. yeaaaa and even then i find it hard to own multiple copies of the same thing. like for records I'll decide if I like the sound on one pressing more than another and sell of the one I didnt like. With movies its sorta tough too i guess, but even then most movies its just about the transfer and if im upgrading chances are the upgrade is already way better than what I did have. Unless in the errant case of Dawn of the Dead where I kept my Anchor Bay disc in case someone else in the apartment wanted to watch it and the only blu-ray player is in the living room and the 4K player is in the bedroom.

I've got a couple of doubles, DVDs that I have upgraded to blu-ray or 4k, that I have only because I don't have a great way of getting rid of them. Like I have the 3 case set of the Criterion release of Brazil. I got the blu-ray last year. I don't wanna keep the Brazil box, but out of sentimentality I don't wanna just randomly give it away; I'd like to give it to someone that wants it. edit: I've got my Book of the Dead editions of both Evil Deads, and the rubber is in mint condition. The battery for the screaming eye on 2 is dead, but the rest are in excellent shape. So I'll always keep those, probably, even when I finally upgrade to the 4ks.

I can see buying a movie and then the steelbook if you really like it. A lot of them look good and make great display pieces. Maybe if it has a special collectors box or something, that’s cool too. At some point you’re just trying to open a Blockbuster in your basement.

I double dip on stuff that I want to upgrade but still it comes back to the point that the whole reason I even started collecting movies in the first place is because they can provide me entertainment. So if I'm upgrading it's never because of packaging, it's because I think the actual experience of watching the movie will be better than it was on the older release. Even with all the UHDs I've been buying the past few years, the amount of redundant blu rays I own fit in a single small plastic bin that I just slide into my closet. Whereas the dude from the video has like 10 different copies of Deadpool on display because they released it with a bunch of slip-cover variants.

I mentioned earlier that I bailed on all of my non-criterion cases. honestly it is freeing. I never got the whole steelbook thing why do I need a slightly better case for my copy of Ben Affleck’s The Town those evil dead special editions that come in rubber necronomicon boxes are on display in Ed and Lorraine warren’s home museum as actual necronomicons

Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I never get rid of anything in my collection even when I upgrade. And I've on numerous occasions bought multiple versions of the same release with unique packaging

I have a lot of movies, but they’re movies I like and give a poo poo about, and plan to watch again at some point in the future (even if it takes a long-rear end time ). I don’t buy movies just to buy them, and I try to not blind-buy stuff unless it’s strongly recommended by people I trust, it’s dirt fuckin’ cheap and I wanted to see it anyway, and/or I’m very confident I’m going to enjoy it. I’ve been trying to make a concerted effort of watching my backlog of movies I’ve bought, but it’s slow-going. Being a working adult with other obligations and hobbies means free time is at a premium.

I will admit that when it comes to steelbooks upgrading to UHD has given me an easy excuse to buy steelbooks of some of my favorite movies. For those classic movies that I watch every year, it's kinda cool to take the disc out of a sleek metal case. It has a finality to it, like "yes, this is the Ultimate copy of The Shining I'll ever need" and a nice steelbook reinforces that feeling.
|
# ? Apr 6, 2021 21:57 |

Yeah, most of my collection is movies I actually care about watching and re-watching and showing friends. I'm also interested in more special features and commentaries and stuff, cuz I wanna learn about my favorite movies! I don't really like steelbooks. Most of the art I don't care for. I don't like the extra room or weight either. If the best release is steelbook then I'll go for it, but I'd rather not. It's technically better for the environment, I think? I know I've got Django Unchained and The Thing in steelbook. I see the collectors that buy movies they don't even want because they can get them in steelbooks and I scoff while I open up my cheap plastic case that has a giant recycling symbol carved into the front so the cover gets weird wrinkles.

I’m a sucker for some non-conventional packaging (steelbooks, digibooks, neo cases, metalpaks, lenticular, stuff that’s still roughly case-shaped and will sit on the shelf, even unique alternate artwork like Shout’s releases). I’ll buy Region 2 stuff if it came in a cool unique case, and I’m not afraid to “upgrade” a movie to a better case.

Franchescanado posted:I've got a couple of doubles, DVDs that I have upgraded to blu-ray or 4k, that I have only because I don't have a great way of getting rid of them. All my duplicates have been format upgrades in one way or another. Weirdly enough most of them have ended up as DVD to 4k upgrades, probably due to the fact that for a while there I was struggling with financials and had a medium sized 720p HD TV, so I didn't see it as a priority when I could just snag something I didn't own yet.

The only things I've got doubles of are the Blu-rays I upgraded to 4Ks and a couple things I bought for cheap but forgot I already owned. I want to get rid of them but I am quite lazy and selling poo poo takes effort.

I've upgraded for steelbooks and box sets but if I own two copies of a movie it's cause someone hosed up. Usually the studio. Example: I still have a DVD copy of the first Terminator because they've never put any of the special features from it on any other disc. Or if there's a criterion and a 4k of something.
