If you select a colony member, how do you de-select them? The UI for that takes up A LOT of screen real estate.

The proposed game is EXACTLY what I want from a survival game. I hope you guys keep going!

You can make doors via the crafting bench and pressing E while mousing over it. Doors need colonists to build it.

The UI is definitely going to see some major overhauls.

Gonna jump back in and try to build some proper poo poo and give some actual feedback.

Only feedback from an hour of whisky-fueled play is that there sure are a lot of folks crash-landing all over the place. I couldn’t build hovels quickly enough to house them :ohdear:

Lol you might be better off just putting some of them down to get ammo and weapons on them. We made sure the spawnrate was relatively high so it wouldn't take ages to get things going for the playtests

Yeah, it took me half a year to get to hardmode in Terraria because I had to build pretty tunnels, train stops and an aqueduct for a rail network. I'm not going to be testing anything remotely resembling normal gameplay :haw:

Tanks still suck but you don't gotta hand it to the Axis either.
One of the biggest gripes I have is inability to build platforms on the tiles you are in. Either increase vertical jump height to 3 tiles or allow me to place a platform behind my head, this is slowing down helevator builds considerably.

A lot of people are finding difficulty in knowing what to do so it isn't just you. We'll be looking at accessibility and giving more info in-game.

If an NPC is in your squad it means they'll presumably follow you and you can give direct commands (which isn't very much atm), whereas colony means they're in the greater group and can be left to their own devices at your base.

Squads conceptually exist to give you a means of delivering commands to fireteams following you or instructions to digging crews, farmers, etcetera, other ways of delivering immediate commands.

a game thats also not far from alpha Ostriv, does a pretty good job at saying hey idiot do this, as you play. I needed it lol.

Our starting NPC, Buddy, is meant to give you much needed hints and tips but we haven't got around to implementing that stuff. Mostly he spends his time right now killing everything in sight or finding his way into solid terrain. Just being a lunatic.

Figured out how to spawn guns in debug and :hellyeah: they sound so cool. The sillier weapons aren't done yet but I laughed when I shot a frog with a railgun and the corpse went flying off somewhere. Also managed to get the NPCs to automatically butcher all the corpses I'm making which is great because I couldn't figure out how to do it myself

I'm waiting for the fancier guns as well. Laughed when I spent a whole minute loading a nuke launcher only for it to shoot out a single dinky bullet.
Our sound guy did a good job with the weapon effects.

Right now they will do it based on profession. Scientists should automatically research, chefs should automatically create more complex foods, engineers should automatically build advanced parts, and armorers should automatically build weaponry, everyone else should automatically do lower end poo poo that's on the docket.

I say should because the AI is still prone to breaking at the moment, over time we'll have more precise means of controlling which colonist is assigned to any given task.

Just play naturally. The only real goal right now is building up a base to the limits of what's currently possible to achieve in the game atm which is limited.

The vertical pathfinding of the AI is very dubious and limits basebuilding more than anything else. This gane needs a direct traverse way down and up; think terrarias rope system. Ofc later in tech tree it could be elevators. Or ladders. The AI gets stuck on platforms all the time
.
Also quitting and re-loading a game reboots the AI which fixes some of their Jank, But doing that Also resets the research tree.

Speaking as someone who has been absolutely spoiled by Dragon Quest Builders 2's hand-holdy stuff recently, this is actually quite helpful.

Our biggest goal with base layouts are the z-doors which will reduce pathfinding considerations by the player signifigantly and allow them to more focus on chaining effective z-door routes together. Of course, the AI should be able to handle pathing complex routes regardless.

We're working on getting the AI pathing better.

Update bitches!! This one addresses some pathfinding issues people were having (NPCs can properly jump now instead of just single block gaps) but more excitingly, we've implemented the groundwork for setting NPC squad behavior. You can now have them hold fire (so they don't waste ammo murdering snails), keep their distance while firing, be hyper aggressive, hunt wildlife, act as your personal flashlight carriers, return fire only, and so on.

Pretty major update as far as the future goals of Outworlder are concerned.

Its hilarious because 1) Buddy was planned to be this kind of lovable oddball goof that everyone keeps in their base and 2) He was meant to be Buddy, not Buddie, but I think the "ie" gives him character
