I really liked the Ori games (free with game pass) but I hit a wall with both where it just gets too tricky and I'm just too ambivalent to actually put in the work to get past so they just go on the dustheap. A shame because they're gorgeous looking games!

I recommend Koi Farm for a nice soothing game. When you start getting to the pages with weird colors you'll eventually want to go look at the guide.

Just left early access

quote:

Become a real medieval feudal lord: start with a small village and build it up into a great impenetrable castle. You will have to repel enemy raids: hide behind thick walls, lure your enemies into strategically placed traps and even lead your loyal peasants into the battlefield.

quote:

• Managing peasants
Each peasant can have one of ten available professions. Once assigned, they will start executing corresponding tasks and orders — you don’t need to keep track of each individual resident. However, if you think that a regular peasant with three grades of education is not good at tactics, you can directly command groups of units or individual ones in combat
• Develop the infrastructure
Start by processing stone and lumber, then advance your technologies to open new ways of growing your settlement: manufacturing, trade, lighting, comfort, equipment, defense. Your character and peasants will also be able to advance and improve their skills while doing useful work.
• Settlers
In order to make a village attractive to new settlers, you need to take care of its residents’ comfort. Peasants need cozy houses and good food. However, for particularly lazy peasants in addition to carrot there is a whip.
• Battles
Bandits, wolves and bears will regularly attack your settlement. You can lead the militia or stay out of combat by letting your people defend themselves. To reduce casualties, you can hide behind powerful walls or lure the enemy into meticulously placed traps.
• Agriculture
Collection and hunting solve the hunger problem at early stages only. In a highly developed settlement, you need to start growing various crops and farming animals.

It's really great. In addition to different colors and patterns, you can also selectively breed for size and body type. Like a fish long and skinny, or maybe you prefer more roundish, like a basketball? Or do you want a fish that is tiny when fully grown?

Nice sized Metroidvania here, very charming animations on characters, enemies and NPCS.

Direction is a bit wishy-washy, but you can find a map to help you get around.
There's 3 sets of skill trees, some pretty good diversification in techniques you also learn, and plenty of secrets to go back and find.

you can play on a few difficulty modes, Story mode is for beginners, ones that don't want a Hollow Knight experience in difficulty.
Normal is standard Hk difficulty, with Dark souls-like healing and dodge rolling being the main moves you will need.

Difficulty isn't too bad, but it will catch some people off guard, due to healing being so limited at first.
You can eventually buy an upgrade to your healing flask, and the amount of them in your skill trees.

Seeing really good reviews on this. I wasn't sure if I wanted another deckbuilder right now, but it looks like it has enough different stuff going for it that it is worth a look. Especially at the $15 price point.

I've had it in early access for a while and it's quite fun. There's 3 different story adventures, a freeform adventure mode, lots of scaling difficulty that you'd expect to see in a roguelike deckbuilder, but the tactical elements play a bit like Gloomhaven. I don't know if it's a perfect game, but it's one I really enjoy.

Trials is notable in that despite being a deckbuilder it really doesn't feel at all like the Slay the Spire model that dominates the subgenre. The combat model and how you use your cards is really unique feeling.

There can never be enough roguelike deck builders with RPG elements! What I really need, though, is a good open world battle royale roguelike deck builder with RPG elements that has a good survival crafting system and multiplayer base building. Is that too much to ask?
