I didn't use drugs or booze at all the time I played (the game comments on this a few times)

Question regarding Evrart and his help is it possible to find Harry's gun without him? I've already discovered I had pawned it before I talked to him., Just wondering if I actually need him at all or if I can find The Pigs on my own.

Also interested in this I told evrart I didn't want his help, and the "find your gun" task completed there and then, which makes me think I'm locked out of finding it, which is pretty lame

There's something about this that I haven't figured out yet. Is Evart really going to do a good thing with his youth center? Joyce had some weird nostalgic plans for the coastal village and I'm wondering if forging the signatures will paradoxically result in better outcomes for that area?

there is a check (I believe it's a passive one) you can pass that will basically say Evrart seems sincere in his desire to build the youth center despite being a corrupt bag of scum. he does have interest in doing positive things for the area, even if it's for negative reasons

There's also another check you can do that will say the subtextual plan of the agreement he asks you to get signatures for is to passive-aggressively drive the villagers out of their homes through endless construction noise and limited street access. Evrart is a land of contrasts.

Are there any playthroughs of the OG game (unless you know of a good Final Cut one that started) where someone actually takes the time to discuss some of the game’ssymbolism and politics? Likely the only way I would be into an LP of this but need something to hold me over cause I’m too busy to really sink my teeth in at the moment.

Bonus points if they’re not some neolib dipshit like every Twitch streamer who just wants politics to shutup so they can keep making money off donations from whales.

Latish game spoilers: I'm pretty sure after you send the letter off Evart lays his cards on the table; he's planning to seize the habour from Wild Pines and re-invest the resulting funds into restoring Martinaise to its fromer glory, while simultaneously placing the Union as the de-facto government of the district. This plan is pretty much the natural continunation of the Union's role in Martinase over the previous years, and presents the same issue; while it's clear that the Union is the only organisation that has done anything to actually govern and improve the standards of living in the district, it also means handing more control over to someone as slimy as Evrart.

Seems like the best out of a series of really lovely options. It reminds me of Nationalist China and how the central government lacked the resources and the means to govern the outbound provinces so they relied on local warlords loosely aligned with government but functionally independent and self serving.

As opposed to the pristine unslimy-ness of the Moralists of the world and their hired killers, or unrepentant bougie scum like Joyce who want to keep a "pornographically poor" neighbourhood around because it's charmingly quaint ? Or worse, fascist assholes (of which, thankfully there isn't really a serious, leading example in the whole of Martinaise right now ; just a bunch of individual little assholes making life worse for everyone around their pissant little sphere of nuisance power... but if fascists are anything, it's easy to lead/dupe/coalesce into a violent force.) ?

Socialisme ou barbarie, bratàn.

I love that Electrochemistry turns Harry's addictions into actual quests, complete with little chimes and XP rewards - thus pushing the *player* to feed Harry's demons through their own desperate need for that sweet, sweet dopamine. Very meta, very disco.

The skill also leads you down a path of substance abuse, giving you quests
to procure amphetamine, or just buy a magnum sized bottle of wine.

These quests are often non-refusable.

yeah thats been obvious they just didn’t have it done. I don’t know why they didn’t just say that instead of trying to imply it was some sort of certification issue. Like people weren’t even really mad about the bugs, they got mad after the announcing a patch was coming in 1-2 days then saying nothing for a week, then implying it was Sony’s fault

That’s kind of the point of Evrart as a character. He is the Lenin or Mao of Disco Elysium. He is fighting international capital but he is also so compromised that he will personally guarantee the revolution fails in the end. He is a dead end.

you're making a couple of interesting assumptions about the devs' views of a wide number of things here, considering their own analogue to the russian revolution was crushed by international capital swooping in to destroy it.

You can pretty much say the same thing of Stalin and Mao (even if both added their own brand of stupid self-sabotage). Or the French Revolution, or the Commune de Paris, or South America as a whole... Basically every socialist experiment has been crushed from the outside, most often by capital (special mention to Makhno's Ukraine, which got crushed by socialists ; although I suppose one could still ascribe it to capital albeit more indirectly).

The *one thing* liberals do not want is an example of a functional, successful society not controlled by liberals existing and threatening their deathgrip on everything (no matter what that alternative is - doesn't *have* to be Fully Automated Luxury Communism). There is literally no effort or vileness they will not stoop to to prevent that from happening. They would rather destroy the entire world overnight than cede even a iota of power ; and they know full well how powerful "we're the ONLY solution" is.

That is a rather unfair characterization.

It is true that the union will be dealing drugs, but that's because contraband is the only thing that the capitalists dedicated to destroying the union don't have power over. It's basically their only source of income outside of the capitalist structure.

You know, I'm not sure if it was intentional because Evrart is kind of an archetype in many ways, but the Huey Long comparison is actually pretty good right down to the slogans, "every worker a member of the board!" and "every man a king"
