Joss Whedon always kind of gave me the same vibe as that guy in the episode. Someone who preaches sensitivity, tolerance, feminism, etc., but only because he thinks it will get him laid.

Honestly, it sounds like his kind of "feminism" has been an open secret since the 90's.

It's not like his breakout work was about how strong and cool women are...when they are repeatedly chewed up by the world, broken and hollowed out until they are a shadow of their former selves, sobbing in the rain.

It helped that he was always proven to be in the wrong and thoroughly rejected. You were not supposed to think what he did and said was good or correct, except that he loved his mom. The occasional episode where he learned a lesson in the end and came away better for it (not that it ever stuck because it was an episodic cartoon of course) were usually some of the best they had as opposed to the ones where just got thrown into a trash can because he belonged there.

The "Adam West" "character" on FG is basically written exactly the same as in his JB episode, no coincidence.

Around that time Seth also had some one-off short on Cartoon Network that was basically the FG prototype with a taking dog that sounded exactly like Brian.

Please tell me how this is any different from the times this exact same thing has happened to other differently political dudes in entertainment? No one defended Burch, everyone thought he was a creeper. But the companies don't care and there are no legal consequence because there never are. It feels like you're just pretending there is something different about the very standard abusers getting away with poo poo because they annoyed you on twitter.

Farci in particular had his sexual assault stuff constantly shouted down not because of how "oh we must defend the feminist man" but because of standard misogynist poo poo about his accuser being "crazy". And even to this day people go "oh he was a sex pest" not "he directly sexually assaulted women", even though the latter is the truth.

For the power thing it's power from their employers who are universally very stupid wrt what actually makes money. The companies these guys worked for thought they made them money, because they happened to be in the room when money was made. Burch wrote for Borderlands and he's the name I recognize thus he must be why Borderlands made so much money the businessmen logic goes.

Cool, but gonna go out on a limb here and say that rapists still deserve no forgiveness from any wider sources. You can steal or rob because you're hungry or in abject poverty. You can kill for understandable, if not acceptable causes. Most crimes can have a lot of grey to them, rape ain't ever one, there's no silver lining to it ever, there's no spurring moment of actual need, it's pure victimization for power/gratification.

I fully believe it is used to obtain victims in the first place. I just don't think it matters for people covering for them or who are convinced that they didn't abuse people. Everyone would covered for Whedon or still defends Dan from Game Grumps would have done so even if those people professed different politics, because it's all theater. They are defending them or giving them a pass because they like their media, it helps their job, or whatever and any reasons given in the defense arguments are ex post facto justifications for wanting you to shut up about someone who makes stuff they like.

The one off was "Larry and Steve" from What a Cartoon!, which was a series composed entirely of potential pilot episodes. Most of the late 90s/early 00s Cartoon Network shows came from that, including Johnny Bravo.

She also forgave him, I think, because Samantha Geimer was known for decades as being the girl the famous man raped. It made sense for her to eventually draw a line under it and try and move on.

POLANSKI: WANTED AND DESIRED has a lot to answer for. Since it gave people the idea that the real story isn't that Polanski raped someone, it's that Polanski was the victim of an overzealous judge.

Yeah, she made that statement because everytime Polanski does anything she has to relive it all over again. If he had any decency (HAH!) He would never make another movie or enter into the public sphere in anyway ever again. I dont think that sexual abuse survivors should be made to grit their teeth and bare it while this man continues to get praise and opportunities. The onus should squarely be put on him and the people who enable him.
