Just start with "Balance" which is their first campaign. After the first few episodes it moves away from the original D&D module and into entirely custom content, and then shoots off like a rocket ship from there.

Murder on Rockport LTD (arc 2 of Balance I believe), Pedals to the Metal (arc 3) and the uh.. time loop one who's name I forget (which I believe is arc 5) are the stand out parts for me. Arc 4 and Arc 6 are pretty ok, Arc 7 is really hit or miss imo, I didn't really like it. The finale really stuck the landing for me though so it's all worth it!

Amnesty (campaign 2) is worth a listen if you're into the more monster of the week/buffy-ish kinda thing. But there's a few parts that just didn't work for me so I eventually fell off. And uh.. Graduation is.. well.. yeah

Did you actually listen to the episode?

Which, graduation?

nah I just read a short summary and it sounded kinda bad. I'm thinking of giving it a try once it's complete to see if maybe it holds my attention better after it all comes out?

Listened to all the other ones outside of I think the last couple of amnesty when I sorta lost interest

TAZ as a whole works SO much better when it's bingeable. 2 weeks between episodes make things worse than they are. Not saying that it's good for it to be markedly improved upon relisten- the episodes should be enough as is to support a fandom growing and talking about it.

patriarchy sucks
I got into TAZ when I had two weeks of highway driving all day to do for work, I’d listened to most of the first arc at that point but I binged like 3 whole arcs on that trip. It’s definitely easier to remember what’s going on when you can binge it, not that Balance was that complicated.

I did enjoy Amnesty, especially at the beginning, but I couldn’t really tell you anything that happened in it. The long waits between episodes and complexity of the plot left my scratching my head at what the hell was going on. I remember the morgue ending got me really excited for a bit but I still don’t get what the shapeshifter was or the quell or why Sephiroth showed up.

In some ways Amnesty is my favorite (not-a-one-shot) thing they've done but I am consistently unable to really argue with all the various flaws that are brought up about it, especially the one where there was a hell of a lot that didn't become at all clear until right before the very end and even then only kind of and I couldn't really explain most of it now.

I thiiiiiiiink the idea was that the AI groupmind that was the final big bad had been programmed to shut down if it ever got too openly antagonistic and shoving Beacon into its heart turned its antagonism up to 11. Or something.

Low stakes Amnesty was good but once it became a dumb save-the-world plot it became way more arduous.

I think I disagree, but maybe because by that point there was so much less one-on-one monologues, and the group was actually together for more than 30 minutes at a time.

Yeah basically. Putting Beacon in pushed the "average" belligerence of the hivemind to a bajillion because Beacon was created to sow war (and was the ultimate rear end in a top hat). The hivemind's self-termination mechanism kicked in since it became what it was supposed to prevent.

TBH while I liked the rest of Amnesty, I also enjoyed low-stakes Amnesty more (probably because I'm much more interested in monster hunters at that level--ask me my thoughts on Hunter: the Reckoning. Just kidding, don't.)

Low stakes crises can often be more interesting than save-the-world stuff in general. I think Amnesty scaled reasonably well, but I certainly could have done with fewer cases of "I take a step" "THE YEAR IS 1985. YOU ARE IN YOUR CHILDHOOD HOME. AGAIN."

I hate D&D as a product and WotC as a company, and Graduation just marinates in 5E in a truly miserable way. So I have a lot of affection for Amnesty, even with its very real flaws.

(Yes, I listen to Rude Tales. The differences are that 1) Rude Tales is not fannishly fawning over D&D-as-Cultural-Iconography, and 2) Rude Tales is loving excellent)

One of the best things about Dragon Friends is that, even though it's built on a 5e framework and WotC occasionally provides materials for them, nobody but Dave gives a poo poo about the system. Even though they're still orbiting the Strahd storylines, they also just don't follow the story except by accident, and rename characters things like Rimjob.

Article title yes, which is why I suspected it would be funny; journal title no, because while gender studies as a field tends to have lower impact factors, this is low even for that

I do legit wonder if research has been done on whether people actually relate more to a low-stake-crisis than a world-ending-crisis. Go easy on yourself writers, losing 100 lives is a tragedy, your stakes need not be so unfathomable.

Impact factor means the average times a paper gets cites in another publication. 0.75 means off hand at least a quarter of the papers never get cited at all but since it's an average there are probably a few that get cite a handful of times and most that are forgotten completely. Also most researchers like to cite their previous work in future publications (as usual you build of your previous work and you want to point readers to it) this number means it's really a dead-end for papers that want to be mothballed forever.

For general calibration at least in the scientific field I worked in back when I was publishing academic papers I wrote about a dozen and they've been cited about 5-100 times as a range.

Using a podcast to rip into the language of gender studies papers sounds like something Joe Rogan has probably already done. The paper looks poorly thought out and researched, but academic language is what it is, and has its uses.
