I'm already sick of these JSA jerkoffs that don't know poo poo about the industry I've been in for 14 years. First piece of feedback on my resume, which I'm only sending out to bar jobs is that I need to delete the part where I say "I feel the liquor flowing through me" meanwhile who already has a job you dumb gently caress? Yeah I might need help writing a normal resume for day jobs, which I probably still need but jfc these dudes actually dont know anything about how to get a job when you dont have 4 layers of HR bullshit to wade through

I know most people find the in person appointments an absolute nightmare but I actually had to organize mine like that because the woman from my original JSA started yelling at me when I interrupted her to clarify something and then terminated the call, and their website pinged my browser as not being secure and not to enter any personal information into it lmao

Day 2 of new job went well. Really cool and friendly people, relaxed company culture and the work I’ve done so far is already heaps more interesting than anything I did in the last 2 years at the old job. And it’s a nice 25 minute walk through some parkland to get home. All in all feeling pretty good

Laserface posted:good afternoon thread. Got 2 new shiny 27 inch gaming monitors for my PC which was an upgrade from the 2x 24 inches I got in 2009 and they're awesome. It's mid-sem at UQ so my online German class is off this week so I might try to do some study this weekend. I should also get back to looking at apartments again so I stop living with my parents at age 35 but having dad do my laundry for me is pretty dank ngl.

I got put on a salary with actual holiday and sick pay after 4 years of working at this studio as a freelancer. Doesn't change my day to day work but it was nice to have the Easter weekend and not think about the money I left on the table. Also I've become involved with some Hollywood types developing an animated film concept which is bringing back bad memories from my days working in film VFX. I'm trying to resolve some bad vibes from those days by dipping my toe back in in a small way

tbh if the idea of working in ~~showbiz~~ doesn't make you cream your pants and accept a wage half your normal going rate you're probably at least prepared enough to be able to spot a bad outfit to work for at first glance.

Some of them have hearts. I was doing the mutual obligation job seeking training thing after the gfc had gotten my job made redundant, and one morning I got there a bit late because my Dad was getting moved into palliative hospice care. When my JSA lady heard why I was late she pulled me aside and told me that I could go and she'd sign me off as having fulfilled centrelink's requirements. I ended up getting a job offer a few days later, but it was still really nice of her to do that.

Seriously, gently caress them. Don't give them the benefit of any doubt. She still got paid despite you not staying there, it just meant less work for her. All those parasites do is soak up funds that might otherwise go to actually helping unemployed people. Just another way to funnel taxpayer money into private business. The stupid arsehole that tried to convince me not to take a paying job because it wouldn't directly benefit her liked to have us do group activities where we would share our favourite things or most treasured possessions. She took great delight in sharing her love of vintage champaign and her passport to a room full of people who could barely afford a cask of goon and had never travelled further than Geelong. In the order of valuable members of society they rank well below the unemployed but slightly above real estate agents.

I in theory get disability support providers rather than the usual grifter JSAs, which are usually just incompetent, underfunded and out of their depth.

I agree with you 100% that JSA's are absolutely a huge waste of resources and people's time that could be better spent on more effective ways to help disadvantaged people. I guess this is part of the reason that I felt moved by the lady in my story's actions, I'd had some bad experiences with JSA staff in the past so to be treated with some sort of dignity was surprising.

I was with my last JSA for like 6 months before they finally had a look at my resume because I kept bugging them about it, the only advice and help they gave me in over a year was to lie on my resume and say I'm a tutor to fill the gap. A great use of time and resources.

I had a JSA demand I apply for jobs in aged care despite having no qualifications or desire to get them. I did get my RSA/RSG for free, but I also had no interest in working in hospitality. I eventually got a job as a trainee pest control technician but got fired because the boomer boss didn't like that I refused to cut my hair (was always tied back at work but was too long and "unprofessional" for a dude)

got a job trial tonight and usually I would give the idea of an unpaid job trial on a friday night a huge amount of fuckin sideeye but its a really cool live music venue and I'm not gonna be there until the casual suits coming in for an after work drink have pissed off home and I know the bloke who runs the place so I'm pretty keen to come in and check the place out. Doesn't hurt that a late start means a nice easy cruise around the cbd to find a park instead of catching the train in. If it works out I'm gonna start just looking around for random day labourer jobs to fill out the week so I just dont have to even bother with this jobseeker poo poo. Next step is find a place to live, preferably where I can have a small dog and then look into doing a social work cert from a TAFE and figuring out wtf i'm doing with my life from there.

I dealt with JSA when I stopped getting hours as a result of a company getting taken over and our work dried up a bunch, I went in there with a double degree in HR and mechanical engineering and they're basically just like yeh sorry you're poo poo out of luck. Good luck tho. And basically I'd just show them all the engineering jobs I applied to and they'd be like yep no worries and that was it

Max employment (who had done absolutely gently caress all) or whoever it is called me almost every day for 2 months after I got a job on my own trying to find out who I got the job with. I assume so they could claim they found it for me and get the money.

The "help" they gave me was making me turn up every week to sit in the corner of their office they had filled with a dozen old computers and three different newspapers so you could find your own work to apply for. The computers barely connected to the internet, the newspapers had half the jobs cut out so nobody else could apply for the good ones, but this was clearly better than me doing job searches at home. And if you didn't get those 60 applications per fortnight out then you were in trouble. I found a job without their help and they hounded me for a year trying to get me to sign a bit of paper saying they did a good job.
