Yeah seconded, it was a useful watch. It is amazing to just check in on twitter after the video dropped and see the people still flinging hate and mocking her video without even watching it and gleefully refusing to watch it. loving sociopaths, man.

Only Lindsay videos I've watched involved dick wolves, so I didn't know about this other stuff. But this sounds interesting so I'll give it a watch.

Yeah my main point was we can just green screen out actors completely. I don't really care who they put in there; it's loving nuts they just did the Stalin photo thing on one of the cast members after the main shooting wrapped.

You weren’t necessarily doxxed if you got a helldump thread, but doxxing can definitely be a part of someone’s cancelling process.

The big similarity that I was pointing to though is the “List of Sins”

In helldump you would post quotes of the helldumpee from other subforums, and usually the sin was that they were being weird or obsessive. This irony was lost on a lot of people.

On twitter the sins are perceived -isms and -phobias, usually alleged by people who have some -isms and -phobias themselves. The irony is lost on a lot of people.
No one ever cared if helldump just quoted their posts, people really cared when helldump used the info contained within (and posts on other forums if they used the same user name) to internet detective their poo poo and really find stuff out. Effectively doxxing.

Yeah helldump was great when it was rounding up sex criminals and potential mass shooters.

But then it wound down to "this guy once made a very obvious joke about jerking off in the wendy's bathroom, let's get him!" and shutting it down was the best call.

There was an old comic book series from the 1980s that I read at way too young and impressionable of an age, called American Flagg!. It was written and drawn by Howard Chaykin (who later wrote and drew the very explicit comic Black Kiss, and also wrote for the original Flash TV series that was around for a bit), and apart from some very 1980s things that didn't age well (after the last world war, everyone decided to just go live in giant shopping malls), and Chaykin using the series as a way to broadcast his interests/fetishes that would become recurring themes throughout almost all his later comics work (most everyone dresses in a sort of hybrid combo of 1940s and 1980s fashions; lots of big-breasted women in lingerie and stockings), one thing that stands out about the AF! comic was how it basically used the idea of movies and TV using the digital replacement of actors and making it commonplace.

The main character of AF! was a former TV actor who starred in a series called "Mark Thrust, Sexus Ranger", which was basically "if James Bond actually featured pornographic sex scenes". He was fired from the series (which is where the comic book starts, shortly after his firing and decision to basically become an actual government agent) when the producers implemented a technology (called Tromplography™) that essentially allowed them to replace him with a CGI version of himself. At the time I read it in the 1980s, it seemed like just another wacky sci-fi concept, but I never would have guessed that in 2021, we're actually very close to it becoming a reality.

Sorry for the effort post, but I'd say American Flagg! is still worth a read if you get the chance. Only read up to issue 14 or so, though; after that, Chaykin started to lose interest and it really shows in the steep decline in quality (and definitely don't bother with anything after he leaves, or when he briefly came back before the publisher finally shut down). The first 14 issues have some pretty intriguing story arcs that get wrapped up quite nicely at the end.

I enjoy her comedy somewhat but I absolutely loved the documentary style one she was in about her horrible year and struggles to have a kid. Seriously I was so loving invested by the end of it, it was wild.

Also unrelated I have been watching Anthony Fantano music reviews and the youtube alg pushed his review of NC’s the wall at me and it rules, he just rips it apart. “It’s loving poo poo” would be the tagline. It does start with an unfortunately long bit of him singing a parody of another brick in the wall prt 2 tho otherwise I would link it.

I'm not in the thread discord or anything so maybe I'm missing details, but I never got the vibe he was a gimmick so much as he had constantly bad opinions and voiced them often, which led to a josh comparison which he then unironically embraced. Perhaps this is splitting hairs but from memory it doesn't feel like it was a gimmick from the get go
