I can post if you want, I'll start with the next episode but as a recap up to now which is episode 12 season 1: I think Girabaldi is my favorite character and then the two senators I forgot their names. episode 12 where Girabaldi gets drunk again was fantastic imho, but maybe a bit too early in the show. other than that though I don't really see too many hanging threads other than the relationship between sinclair and the senate. that said this show is great

Oh is it best to follow this order? http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/countries/master/eplist.html I ask because HBO lists Signs and Portents after Survivors instead of By Any Means Neccesary

Earlier in the thread there's a recommended order for season 1. It doesn't really matter whether you watch that or follow the list on the Lurker's Guide.

Empress Brosephine posted:Oh is it best to follow this order? Just watch them in airdate order; the fiddling of a list like that is 99% pointless. Your only 'watch order' considerations as a new viewer should be when/if to insert the movies, and the basic answer to that is: The Gathering first before s1e1 In The Beginning/Thirdspace: Mid/post season 4. (Thirdspace nominally takes place mid season 4, but is unrelated to the events therein, so anytime after 'when it happens' is fine. In the Beginning is a 'prequel'/catchup movie for new viewers coming in to the show late, but will spoil a ton of the first few seasons if watched prior to Mid S4 (post e9 is the typical time if you want to insert both of them, but honestly, after finishing the season is also fine and good, for aforementioned reasons. Neither has any impact on ongoing plot lines, even if viewing them depends on information up to a certain point). Then, the other movies fall into "Do you really want to do this to yourself?" after finishing season 5. They were all failed attempts at pilots for spinoffs that never took flight (or, in one case, managed to get airborne just long enough to crash horribly with a midseason cancellation).

Also, if you're truly a masochist and watch the failed launch that is Crusade, yeah, look up an episode order because the network hosed it all to hell, but also, you're literally watching an unfinished half season of a tv show, so....

The series is on Amazon prime and they list the episodes in the original air order. There are switches you should make in season two and season five, but you can worry about those later.

A quick google indicates that HBO Max has done some fuckery https://b5remasterissues.wordpress.com/the-ugly/episode-order-changes/ I don't think any of the changes HBO did are going to matter much either; a casual new viewer is mostly just fine letting the streaming service do it's thing here, I suspect. Just be aware that episode numbering will not be a helpful way to know where your signposts are for trying to discuss things; stick to titles. (For seasons 1/2)

As long as you don't read the pages for episodes you haven't watched, the Lurker's Guide has no spoilers. It was a site that was developed in the 90s by fans who were watching the show. It contains their analysis of the plot/characters/etc. and a list of unanswered questions from each episode, but none of that was written by people who knew anything past the most recently aired episode. Of course it's your call as to whether you want to consume that sort of material during a first watch, but it's not something you absolutely have to avoid.

I followed the Lurker’s guide back in the 90:s, when the show was on Finnish tv. We were 2-3 season behind the American tv, but I never felt, that I was spoiled by the guide. It’s a good source for B5 trivia and spoiler free speculation.

ultrafilter posted:As long as you don't read the pages for episodes you haven't watched, the Lurker's Guide has no spoilers. Eh, yes and no. I think it's worth a read (either after you've watched the entire show, or maybe between series), but I wouldn't read it after each episode. You're right that there are no outright "this is what happens..." type spoilers, but some of the comments/speculation hit a bit too close to home, and maybe because the site is curated/compiled after the fact some of those comments stand out more than they should because a lot of the wilder and incorrect speculation has been edited out. Also JMS was quite active in the community and occasionally dropped hints like "maybe pay attention to X <wink>" which aren't literal spoilers, but get very close to the line sometimes. S1 e 14(?) Signs and Portents this seems to be the first episode that's setting up major plot points in the future whether it be the station blowing up or the shadow man. excellent episode though I think. I like how in this show things that are supposed to work out do work out and not too many things seem to have random plot twists...but I'm sure that changes. s2 e1 spoiler also I'm mad at myself I accidentally read the season 2 episode 1 description and now I know b5 has a new leader 😓😓 granted I don't know why or what happens. I know literally 0 about the plot of this show other than that now

I mean, I guess it ends up being a spoiler, but yeah, there were several significant cast changes over the shows run for various reasons and the show was, in all honesty, pretty remarkably good at rolling with those punches for the most part. S1 e15(?) Grail EB FARNUM yay 😁 traditional alien 👽 The bong water vase was amazing. So was kung fu pastor. I hope Thomas I'd a recurring character though he was cool. This episode was cool, maybe not the best, but enjoyable. It seemed a bit excessive the violence they used against the creature I guess. It's weird how there are races that are treated like creatures even though they can talk and interact. I wonder if that will come up again.

S1 Eyes & A Voice in the Wilderness pt 1 i guess it's a good sign when each new episode is my new favorite. I loved Eyes. It seemed a little bit silly overall and over acted by the colonel but still enjoyable. The motorcycle scenes were real cute. Also apparently Winters may be a bad guy? Voice in the wilderness: Why would they send the two most important people into a unknown cavern??? This was a okay episode, I don't really have too many thoughts on it other than it's cool to see a future species. The hokey pokey scene though rules.

Because star trek set the rules on how sci fi away teams work. Hell, even halo, an entirely military themed franchise, had capital ship captains go get themselves captured by going on stupid away missions they weren't qualified for on multiple occasions. Spoilered because thread is strict, but I think there's nothing plot relevant in my post.

Empress Brosephine posted:S1 Eyes & A Voice in the Wilderness pt 1 In-universe, it's because first contact scenarios require command staff. That was mentioned at the beginning of "Soul Hunter", but it was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it line. Out-of-universe, it's a mix of genre conventions and the realities of making TV shows.

Actually the original '79 Galactica was really good about that. Adama almost never left the ship in that version of the show. 2004 Galactica had Adama wandering off in an abandoned space station by himself in the pilot.

It's been so long I forgot about the bsg pilot lol. S1 another voice in the wilderness part 2 so Girabaldi is the mars secret agent? that's my theory as of this episode. Earth is getting mad at sinclair it appears, as earth turns into the big bad guys? I don't really have much thoughts other than I enjoyed this episode. Poor Girabaldi

S01 Legacies that was interesting. it's interesting that psychics are super powerful and reverted in this world. One thing that was odd was it seemed like this episode everyone was in different make up and hair styling? Also I like the set up for crystalis. S01 crystalis oh so that's what that word means I was expecting some kind of send off for sinclair, did they not know at the time he was bailing? Maybe it happens in season 2. That was a good episode and lots of stuff happened, plus the feeling of dread. My guess is that the vorlons are a higher evolved form of the mumbaris? I dunno, whatever delen saw made her do the formation I think. Still no idea who Morton or his invisible friends are but it's a cool subplot. And I'm guessing Mars colony planned the execution of the president I'm going to watch s2 e1 now I think.
