I HATED AoS when it debuted it was heavily advertised as taking place smack dab in the center of the MCU, the ads even had scenes from the films. And then we got what we got and I just noped out until I heard it was going a little bonkers. I power watched seasons 1-3, caught up on 4 and was hooked. By season 5 it was among my favorite shows. The last 3 seasons are just mon stop amazing fun.

A few of them did actually tie into the finale though, which was cool, but did the rest of them need to be related at all? I'll admit that that formula works on me, but a lot of the episodes don't really pay off at all in the overall scheme of things for the first season. Also, I really didn't like how they wrote Peter's character and his back story. He yo-yos between bickering constantly with Walter or being a pretty attentive caregiver, depending on what the plot demands and whatever emotions they want us to feel at the end of the episode. It gets to be a bit much, but I've only seen the first season so far (and like 5min into s2e1) so I hope they improve this a bit. I'm not sure if I've missed it or what, but Peter's whole backstory and people chasing him seemed to just go away even after they introduced characters that were very interested in his whereabouts. But I tend to watch later at night while I'm doing other stuff so it wouldn't surprise me if I just missed a conclusion on that whole side plot. I'm ok with that since I like to rewatch shows and if Fringe pays off in the end I'll definitely revisit it in the next year or two. Astrid rocks. She's already on it.

Been binging The Last Man Standing. Easy to watch but nothing spectacular. On season 3, and there is seemingly little to no character growth. Melissa showed promise in season 1 but it seems like they are unsure what to do with her now.

Finished Ted Lasso! What a surprisingly funny and heartfelt show that turned out to be. It's waaaaay better than it has any right to be. Probably the best TV show based off a two minute skit for Sunday Night Football in the last fifteen years.

Finished Kingdom (the MMA show). What a tragic ending for Nate. He was the youngest, yet he seemed like the only one out of the whole cast who had his poo poo together even though he initially struggled with his identity. That one hit me hard..

My 600Lb life is the most depressing poo poo ever. The vast majority of the people on the show end up losing like no weight and have made basically zero progress after a 2 hour show.

I've made it through S1 of Travelers. It's better than I expected. After the first couple of episodes I was worried it was just going to be formulaic mission of the week but it deviated from that enough to be interesting and actually gave a lot of attention to the personal problems of the crew. So far the ambiguity and uncertainty is working but I do hope we get some resolution in the next season. The acting is fine but not blowing me away -- I can't help but feel like it could have been even a little better had it been an original Netflix prestige property. I'd probably give it B/B+. We also checked out the first 2 episodes of Suits on Amazon. I'm not sure we've ever had such a whiplash reaction to a show. We watched the pilot and were like "hey this is kind of fun", but one more episode in and it already felt super formulaic.

All of Ewan and Charley’s motorcycle shows on Apple TV. I think the idea of travel is especially appealing while I’m stuck at home during COVID. New Girl has been great comfort viewing, as has Happy Endings. Escape to the Chateau on Peacock has been fun to have on while the little kids are up. Aaaand - DCI Banks. Really cheesy, but for some reason I love it. Oh, and the new American Top Gear!

I'm into Wentworth right now, at season 3 and still enjoying the ride. Australian women's prison drama, you're never really sure if it's going to go dark or sweet with a subplot. My one peeve is when they craft drama out of a character needlessly withholding information, but they don't rely on that mechanic too much. I'm surprised search didn't turn it up in this thread yet, it's not exacty amazing but we're definitely sucked in right now waiting for the Freak warden to get her comeuppance. One of the inmates looks just like Martha Stewart, there, now you won't be able to unsee it either.

I had to stop Made for Love after three episodes. If someone can tell me it's worth going back to, I might give it a shot but it feels like everything it's trying to say has already been said better in other media. Hell, the star, Cristin Milioti's, already done it better herself in Black Mirror! It just feels like an unlikable waste of time, even at only 4 hours for the whole season. 90 minutes felt like enough.

The way the Hub gets weirder and weirder was a particular highlight. TBH I thought it was too short.

Locke and Key - Netflix show... S1 Meh? Though I may be in for season 2. It's a show about a family (titular Lockes) that moves into a house that has magic keys that manifest and whisper to you. I'm down for shows not explaining things, but this one didn't explain hardly anything and the plot had a LOT of forced conflict by the way of characters withholding information from others for no reason other than to extend the episode conflict to the 3rd act. It has some fun stuff though, like a magic key that allows you to go into your own head and see your memories (the little kid's head is like a play place with a gleeful version of himself running around) It's one of those shows you watch and think, "I wish I could have been the script doctor on this" because it DOES have potential, but there are so many "why did they do that?" moments that it takes me out of the show. For example the main baddie is actually one person using a magic key to change their appearance to look like two other people... BUT WHY? It doesn't make sense other than "Ooooh plot twist for the audience- they won't see this coming!" But then when you see it, instead of being a relevant revelation it ends up being a sloppy fart of wetness. There are also a decent amount of dropped ideas where apparently the payoffs will be in future seasons. That makes the current season feel like a LOT of setup. It's almost as if the entire season cares more about world building than plotting. That's also known as bad writing. There are a LOT of mystery boxes here (origin of the keys, how/why did their dead dad get involved in the first place, what are coming of the omego door, why is that door by the water but the rest are in Locke house, what happened to that girls Fear after it made final appearance, what does the grandpa have to do with this...  I think the actors are decent enough that it's keeping me hanging on. Sidenote: two of the older guy characters do that Whisper Acting thing where you talk low with a little vocal fry to come off as either wise or intimidating (depending on delivery) and it sometimes drives me nuts. I suggest checking out the gorgeous graphic novels written by Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son). I have pretty the same thoughts as you on the Netflix series, but I really liked the books.

Binged Succession seasons 1 and 2. The pilot had a bit of a rough start, and the first season didn't really start clicking for me until the second half, but season 2 was very satisfying, especially its season finale. I hope the third season still comes out later this year.

Finally got around to giving Devs a try. I've been putting it off for the longest time because I worried it would just be wanking about tech culture. Fortunately that wasn't at all the case, instead it was just a really good sci-fi story. Particular props to Nick Offerman for turning in a great performance.

Finished Invisible City on Netflix. I'm curious whether the characters are based on actual South American folklore, or if they're just made up for the show. Reminded me a lot of Clive Barker's Nightbreed, where there's no rhyme or reason to what people's form or powers are, and some characters have a sort of mythological role, but others are just loving around doing whatever.

We watched the short 4 episode S1 of Hamarinn (The Cliff) on Prime (maybe Acorn?). Scandinavian crime investigation set in Iceland, s1 was released in 2010. City cop goes home to small town to help with an investigation into a mysterious accident. What makes the show stand out is the presence of some supernatural elements. They are there mostly as flavor and not major plot drivers or central mysteries, and I think it's done pretty well. Otherwise, for me at least the show fell a tiny bit short of other scand crime series we've seen recently like Wisting or Rebecca Martinsson. For one, for a show shot in Iceland I wanted more/better landscape porn, and somehow either the camera tech was older whatever but it I wasn't as blown away as I hoped. Not that there's nothing, but I'm happy to have that "far northern landscape" dial cranked to 11. Also, for once I thought the show was too short – I wish it had another couple of episodes to better explore the small town dynamics. Would still recommend if you're into this kind of show, but I don't know that it's a must watch. We'll definitely sit down for S2 if we can figure out how.

I let Travelers play as background noise again and while it's definitely still good and enjoyable, I just really loving hate the character of Jeff. I know he gets taken over towards the end of the series, but every time he is on screen until then I just keep thinking 'why won't someone just kill this loving abusive rear end in a top hat even if he is a cop?'
