If you fire a nuke it should launch and vanished from the map, announcing that it was fired and by who but not anything else. Then everyone has to decide if they think they were a target, if they should launch theirs and against who, etc.

They have never had a satisfactory nuke system and I'm not sure they ever will. The only reason I'm not just saying they should remove nukes is because Nuclear Gandhi is a Civ tradition at this point.

Just finished a TSL Earth where I played as the Aztec. It was pretty nice to be able to declare Colonial War on the Spanish ngl.

Zombie is so disappointing because I want a raging barbarians/perma siege mode and zombies just feels hilariously anemic, especially given the random interior spawns.

In Civ V I had to declare war on Germany to prevent them from getting a culture victory once. They were on the opposite side of the world so I had to build a navy and sail across the ocean to attack them. As soon as I took Berlin, Bismark launched a retaliatory nuke on his former capital and took out my entire navy with it and it was loving rad.

John F Bennett posted:They showed off the new patch. The new huge earth map seems nice but Europe is way too small. What is the best TSL earth map out there currently? I recall that civ V had an earth map in the workshop that was actually intelligently designed; it was cropped in such a way that the oceans were smaller (like 3 ocean tiles wide or so between the UK and Canada, somewhat similar distance between Japan and Alaska) that most of Scandinavia, Canada and Siberia were cropped out, and the continents with more civs (particularly Europe and the Middle East) were reshaped to have more space. I liked that one because the maker put some thought into "actually a map should be fun first and foremost and crossing ocean tiles for 4 turns is not exactly riveting gameplay" and there were less empty stretches without civs. Anything similar to that in Civ VI or do all mod makers just slavishly reproduce the NYAEMP world map 1:1 ?

As far as I'm aware, YNAEMP is still the go to map pack for TSL Earth. The one that's called Greatest Earth is my favourite one, it's very good. I'll be using the Firaxis one as I recently switched to the console edition of civ.

They nerfed Russia quite a bit, which was a reasonable decision. I play Russia whenever I want to win easily, it feels like cheating.

Seems like a good patch, more changes than I expected but probably less than a lot of people would have liked. Considering how often my games seem to end up on the cultural victories path it will be interesting to see how noticeable that is. I'm glad I got a Russia game in last week, before it lost some of its OTT power. I loaded up a random game to make sure the patch was installed, first roll, Egypt. Didn't see any changes on the patch notes, so I hit restart and got Persia. Looked through the patch notes and whaddya know... their only change is a nerf?! Madness.

Canada is strong with the update. I've been playing on the new huge TSL Earth as Portugal and when I discovered the new world I saw that Canada wiped out America and took over all of North-America. Also, you can finally add more civs than 8 to the standard TSL Earth, , this is my favourite feature of this update. Huge Earth gets 20 spots.

I always play huge maps, with at most 8 civs and max number of city states I used to play normal speed but recently I switched to epic and Im liking it edit: I also dont usually finish my games, though
|
# ? Apr 23, 2021 18:01 |

Epic speed is the correct speed, because normal often feels like my army is out of date by the time they finish marching to the enemy capitol. It also gives more time to focus on exploring and discovery, while normal mode feels like you are required to invade the first person you see, regardless of who they are or get immediately out-tech'd.

# ? Apr 23, 2021 19:11 |

Agreed. Still I would like an epic speed for everything with normal speed for production (except for wonders)

There are also some mods that increase science/culture requirements for early techs which lengthens the first few ages without increasing industry costs.

Zees perfectly timed eras is my fav. What it does is increase tech cost but it scales to era. So outdated tech is incredibly fast and ahead of time tech is slow. Granted, you will eventually get so much science it doesn't matter but that tends to be by the industrial era so it feels better than the real game.
