I believe that op is referring to the "tinged" part, which is a problematic word in british english as it is used in the same way american english uses the word "colored".

There was the famous "funny tinge" political party a few years ago but that was because it's objectionable to describe a person as "having a funny tinge" for being nonwhite, not because the word tinge is objectionable.
