Throwing a gender party when first finding out the sex of an unborn baby is at it's most basic concept really calling your shot on what gender the kids gonna grow up as.

I wouldn't call that fueled by explicit trans hate as much as institutional hate from a society that sees a dick in a grainy interpolated medical procedure and plans the kids next 18 years to present as male.

But yes also there's a lot of people doing very conscious very obvious signalling that they wouldn't do this if there wasn't any controversy about it.

Gender reveal parties are dumb, but they are grounded in the notion that you know what the sex of your child is going to be, and so—just because of how strongly gender is ingrained in us from the perspective of society—the ‘gender’ the child will be raised with until it can tell you if that is not appropriate to how the child actually feels.

And here is the thing about gender, yes it’s socially constructed, but it is very powerful and important to how human beings—in the current version of the world—see themselves.

Which is exactly why trans rights are so loving important.

All of which is to say, gender reveal parties, while incredibly dumb, do not necessarily represent, or intend to communicate, ‘trans hate.’

I think gender reveal parties are dumb, but not as much because gender is a social construct (even tho it is), but because forcing friends/family into a dumb social gathering to show off if you’re having a boy or girl and basically requiring gifts to you/your baby is dumb anyways, and it would be dumb even if sex and gender were inherently tied together (tho they’re not).

It's true that a lot of your later gender identity is already determined by genes and hormones during early development (especially in the womb), but as the parents you don't know for certain what it's going to be for your child, just making a statistical guess. Just call it a sex reveal party...although you could probably come up with counter-examples for that as well.

Really, your only safe choice is calling it a genital reveal party.

My sister in law had a gender reveal event. When her husband found out it was a boy, he was super excited. “Guess what the first thing I’m going to get him is?” “A suit?” “No” “A football?” “No! It’s a gun. I’m going to buy him a [place style of gun here] for when he gets older!”. I was torn between being disgusted by the idea of the gun, and the idea that he wouldn’t have bought it if it was a girl.

Guy got his comeuppance though. He was a cop of the variety that makes people think ACAB. Tried to pull a fat person who had fallen down off the ground. Ruined his hip. Department gave him nothing because he was not required by his job to help the woman to her feet. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

He really is the kind of guy who makes people think all cops are bad. He always showed up to family gatherings telling blatantly racist stories about his job. I know every saint has a past and every sinner has a future, but I still have a grudge against people who make life worse for those who are already struggling. Then again, I’m probably not seeing things from a fair perspective, as I love my nephews and think he has taught them some very bad attitudes.

I think they're clarifying what the OP meant.

So no they weren't talking about a gun but were talking about how the baby should have been given a gender reveal party so they didn't grow up to be trans.

Maybe it would have been good if the trans goon had a gender reveal and then that relative was accidentally blown up. It's never to late for them to try.
