I'm watching the Belgian Cup final on ESPN+ (no idea why) and there's no commentary. I wish more broadcasts would give you the option to turn commentary off, it's nice.

It's amazing what they can do with computers these days.

So at what point are all sports aside from the NFL going to end up on cable? I think we're essentially there aside from Fox's 1-2 baseball games a week, and ABC occasionally showing an NBA game.

College football and basketball seem like they're going to have at least some local tv games every week for a long time and then I guess however you want to define golf

Pretty sure they’re shuttering NBCSN by the end of the year. They’ll have nowhere to put the games once that’s done (other than broadcast NBC obviously).

They could have put games on USA but then shuttering NBCSN is a pretty big sign that they don’t want to commit to live sports beyond NBC proper.

they have usa and peacock which is where they're gonna fold in a lot of the old nbcsn stuff but Turner is paying more than they were previously for a fraction of the rights so they probably just thought it wasn't worth it for a sport that really doesn't do a lot ratings wise outside the playoffs

NBC might also see a very expensive bill coming for the Olympics as well.

or, NBC offered less and/or wanted to put fewer games on cable and more on the 'cock. Per The Athletic:

NBC, according to the Sports Business Journal, submitted a bid of under $100 million annually for the B package rights.

Sounds like games will be on TBS and possibly HBO Max, but mostly TNT.

I assume that means only the streaming rights. Or are they moving the game exclusively onto streaming? I remember the networks weren't exactly clamoring to get the Thursday game when the new deal was negotiated.

My memory of the NFL playoff game on Nickelodeon was that we saw the initial press release and assumed that would be lame, soulless poo poo, then it turned out to actually be sort of fun. ESPN doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt and this press release detailing planned, structured wackiness is absolutely a turn-off, but it's entirely possible that this event will be fun, too.
