I remember reading success stories in this thread on the Newegg shuffle which seems to be an US thing and not available here in Canada. Also, thread favorite Fauxtool won multiple times at that shuffle.

It sounds like the Zotac store, once you master the incantations needed to use it, is one of the more reliable ways to get a card at a fair price (The store is itself notoriously unreliable, but you know what I mean)

I entered the shuffle once and won once, but it was for a 5950X with good (but not great) motherboard combo. I bet the number of entries on somethin like that is gonna be way way way less than a well priced 3080 or something.

I didn't get the initial Best buy notification, only the updated one. Was sad too, but oh well, I want the 3080 Ti now (or maybe the 3090 FE, I can't decide). Re: Newegg shuffle, I've been selected twice now in the last two months. Once, two months ago when I first signed up, for a PS5 combo that I bought for a friend who wanted one, and then yesterday I was selected for the non-combo 5900X, so that was nice.

There was a video by i think hardware unboxed?? That talked about cyberpunk and illustrated with in game examples the difference between rasterized lighting and ray traced. It was pretty interesting and gives you an idea how much work is involved in using various tricks with "conventional" lighting to try to end up with a realistic result, whereas with raytracing they just place the light source and it figures itself out
