like 5 pages too late but the ultimate version of Batman V Superman is the best superhero movie ever made it opens with jimmy olsen being executed by boko haram for being CIA then it turns out the CIA are in league with some PMC mass murderers. superman and the CIA turn up to "save the day" in africa and it results in a bunch of screaming women wailing around a huge mound of corpses while absolutely nobody helps them some liberal senator gets the idea that this makes superman, not the CIA, bad. its okay shes only asking questions. then it turns out shes being played and the senate gets blown up in a false flag by the CIA's pmc allies. after 2 movies of trying to kill or stop superman, including nuking him a few minutes before, once he dies the military throws him a full military funeral and coopts him as part of the american empire. MoS is pretty good too wrt american empire stuff. the military are constantly compared to the super alien fascists and theres a strong theme that humanity is heading towards the destroyed environment and eugenics of krypton. theres a bit where lady-vegeta fascist is owning a platoon of soliders and the last sergeant guy pointlessly draws a knife to die in battle and she approves. comic nerds have argued with me that this is them connecting as "warriors" but its pretty clearly meant to show the fascist death drive is present in the soldiers. if the bad guy approves of you, you're doing bad. zack uses really on the nose imagery but thats vastly superior to not knowing what imagery is like most cape directors imo. theres a couple bits i really like in MoS. One bit where the evil fascists are taunting superman, who represents human liberation, "for every one you save, we will kill a million" and it cuts to an american gunship emptying its guns. a very nice image of the promise of imperial power imo. then during the big fight with the macguffin terraforming machine the military come to help superman and theres a really explicit shot of them firing their missiles, missing and the missiles just carpetbombing screaming civilians then it zooms from the exploding civilians up to the american pilot who dropped the bombs who just says "target missed. collateral damage" somehow everyone misses that a large amount of the civilian casualties in MoS are explicitely the american military friendly firing their own citizens the snyderverse sets up this interesting idea of superman vs the american empire but sadly mostly drops it for him to fight cgi monsters who want to shoot a laser into the sky Communist Thoughts has issued a correction as of 10:44 on Apr 29, 2021 |

the through line on supes getting cucked is that bats should then sacrifice his life for his own child's mother, which prevents supes from going all antichrist. and then supes raises bruces kid, just like his parents raised him as a orphan. the irony is that superman doesn't care about being cucked by bruce, he cares that bruce is a coward at the last minute and can't even die for his kid like both of their parents did. for such an awkward concept, it does end up trying things together in the end. kind of a "martha."
