I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

They're taking a real issue, Americans applying their understanding of domestic issues unto the world at large, and using it to deflect criticism of Israel. Basically trying to use anti-imperialist criticism of American (online) "activism" to call critics of Israel cultural imperialists.

It's really funny how much the right hates the UN when nothing gets done that doesn't explicitly benefit US foreign policy

if you're not willing to hunt, eat the meat of, and make coats out of, say, 101 puppies you don't care about the environment. i donate one puppy worth of meat to the local homeless shelter, so criticizing me is directly harming the unhoused.

quote:

Discussions like this are the reason why nothing ever changes. You try to defend democracy by passing off the responsibility to an abstract higher up, instead of assigning responsibility to a real issue we can change.

The problem is our country is uneducated and poor, so they are motivated more by the quick handouts than by proper candidates. An uneducated, poor man's vote -- a man who is concerned with his family's next dinner -- should not be equal to an educated, middle-class man's vote -- a man who is concerned with the next decade.

Democracy is broken, because it perpetuates the false notion that we're all equal and we're all voting with the same intentions. These false ideals are simply not true, but the corrupt are more than happy to let the righteous believe it is, because only the corrupt know how to take advantage of it, while the righteous bitch and moan about bad elections while doing nothing about it.

For years I've advocated for a change to democracy, and the best way to do this is by forcing people to pass a test to earn the license to vote. A test showing that they have sufficient knowledge of the positions and policies of the candidates.

Democracy is a failure, but enough people are willing to half-heartedly argue for it -- because they think it's morally correct -- that we can never get rid of it. If democracy was a good idea, businesses would do the same thing -- CEOs and executives and managers elected with votes from everyone from the janitor to the VP. But they don't. So our McDonalds is run better than our government because of pure hearted idealists who care more about the principle than the outcome.

Tell me which is quicker to impose, in terms of logistics, planning, and success from A to Z -- changing society and culture, OR adding testing stations and printing voting licenses.

Which?

We will never "change society and culture" because "society and culture" is dictated by the officials elected by ignorant masses, because -they do not want to change society and culture-.

I run businesses. I don't talk philosophy. The problem is the people who do this like philosophy more than results. I like figuring out how to make things happen, not talk about things that might happen 3 generations from now.

quote:

If you mean throwing in the towel for the exercise of democracy in its current state? Yes. The people cannot be trusted to vote for the country's future when they are more concerned with basic day-to-day survival than with long-term economic and social progress. If Candidate A is flashy and throws out pork rinds, T-shirts, and wads of cash, and Candidate B has spent a lifetime climbing up the proper channels with long-term reforms that the masses can't understand, Candidate A will always win.

This has been proven by nearly the entire history of politics. It isn't the fault of the masses because they don't know better. This is the fault of the idealist educated for not recognizing it and changing the system.

I don't blame the masses. I blame people like you.

And my proposed system -doesn't stop democracy from happening-. It just ensures that no one who doesn't know what's going on votes. Everyone still has the right to earn the license to vote.
