I'm drinking Laird's Old Apple Brandy and playing an overly complex strategy game. It does not really taste like apples, but it does taste like brandy. Goes down smoother than my whiskey, and it's not as sweet as the rum, so it's a nice middle ground. |

Typically I prefer: Rum (good Caribbean stuff, not Capt Morgans) Whiskey (not too harsh) The Kopper Kettle stuff I got is too harsh without any aftersmoothness. I have some Irish Whiskey I got on sale that's better. For some reason I'm generally limiting myself to stuff produced in-state (Virginia), which is not always bad (Cape Charles maple whiskey is some good poo poo), but not always great (again, Kopper Kettle Bourbon whiskey). I drink it straight. Because, why not. During the week I'llhave a good beer. When I'm visiting my old man, I'll take full advantage of his home bar and have a martini, or a brandy Alexander, or anything really. He's got a nice small but well stocked home bar, so I indulge in loving awesome cocktails. (his vermouth is flat because he doesn't refrigerate it or drink it quickly enough, but I'll never tell him that. That's our secret). |

I buy white rum b/c I believe hard liquor should taste bad like medicine. It reminds u that you're drinking hard stuff. I'll take spiced rum when there's no other rum around tho

My current favorite rum is Flor de Cana. I bought a second bottle last time I went to the ABC store, which is rare for me. When I'm more sober, I'll look up my notes on my other favorite rums. But yeah, sometimes, you need your drink to taste harsh and unforgiving, like the world. But sometimes you've earned that smooth, sweet taste. So next time you reach for the hard stuff, ask yourself if that's really what you want, or if you've earned something a little sweeter. |

nah you are right that was a thing, i remember as a kid going to some shady bars with my parents and guiltily thinking "i don't know if i should be allowed to be around this stuff" but then again it was my parents dragging me along to those places so lol
