Finished Alpharius. It was above average. I would recommend it because this is where it all started for the search for primarchs. Lots of Imperium building while the Emperor is still walking around. It's also a quick read.

Another book on the good pile!

Of course, it's Alpharius and Omegon telling the story, so it could all be a lie.

It's a good way to gently caress with canon and the fact you have a dozen or more authors all writing non-stop about the same era. That's not saying there are a lot of revising and such, it's just a good way to smooth the edges a bit. I enjoyed it.

Almost finished with Blood Reaver. The Night Lords running away strategies are hysterical.

I just finished the Night Lords omnibus and I'm really surprised at how much I liked that misfit band of monsters. I never got sick of them pulling a "Later, NERDS!" to all the big characters of the setting.

The factions are actually pretty balanced, I'm at an arena plateau at about level 30, I can't seem to find a faction that breaks through.

I just set the clan to Requests.

This one is fun to grind along as an f2p player, at least. Much less imbalanced than most of its type.

Also the art on the cards is awesome.

Most of the new characters are female and are childishly depicted as angels of battle who have no flaws. Almost every act of cowardice or cruelty are perpetrated by their male counterparts. This faux equality that echos every day politically correct life makes it difficult to get immersed in a supposed epic space fantasy novel.

It really felt like the author was going out of his way to put modern politics into it with a good amount of postmodern talk about concepts like the truth not being important. There was also some buzzwords like "gender fluid." Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only social justice. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of censorship and identity confusion, and the laughter of thirsting marxists.

Anyway, it turns out the new head of the sisters was made a high lord by rowboat. Interesting to me that he would give the church two high lord positions. Very curious to know if this was made after or before the end of plague war where he picked up the Lectitio Divinatus.

I decided to take a break from my Dune audiobooks after God-Emperor and go for something that was a little bit more pulp fun and significantly less horny. That audiobook ended up being 'The Infinite and the Divine' and holy loving poo poo this thing is incredible. I'm already collecting a Necron army myself so I was already primed to like it but I didn't expect just how much I would love the dialogue in this or all the little 40k easter eggs peppered throughout the book. I love the 'Spy vs Spy' stuff between Trazyn and Orikan as well as their fun banter and have the plot center around a single world over the course of 10,000 years was a genius idea that really drives home how utterly irrelevant time is to the Necrons. I haven't finished it just yet (Trazyn has just gotten to the bigger Eternity Gate on the post-exterminatus planet) but this thing has got me hooked.

I think this is easily the best warhammer book I've ever read.

If you like this (especially for the dialogue) do yourself a HUGE favor and get Rites of Passage by Mike Brooks. Imagine if all four golden girls were combined and sent into the future to rule a Navigator house.

If I haven't bought a BL book in about a decade and am in the process of playing catch-up with everything that's happened in the backstory whilst my back was turned, will The Infinite and The Devine make any sense to me or do I need to read anything else to get a feel for what the hell is going on?

It's two grumpy Nercons trying to kill each other, I don't think it ties into the bigger plot like the dark imperium or the primarchs coming back.

The only thing that might be new is that the necrons are not all just mindless terminators, that was the race collectively waking up.

Angry Lobster

If you are not familair with the new necrons, read a bit on them. Aside from that, the book has absolutely no relevance to the metaplot in any way , and it's loving fantastic.
