it's really not a big deal. it's the intended effect of the entire system. people go into the idol business with the end goal of becoming so successful that people are doing these kinds of stunts for you. it's the whole top-level of the industry. it's not more or less weird whether you're doing it for idols, vtubers, or completely fictional characters. if i wrote a book and that spawned a franchise that eventually led to some guy with more money than sense blowing a huge amount of cash on some kind of tribute to the protagonist i'd be stoked that someone gave that much of a poo poo
