SVU, I think his name is Callahan or something. IIRC, that guy only started showing up once Benson was in command.

All the awkward Rollins/Carisi tension is killing me and now Carisi finally got a date with someone after like 6 years or however long he’s been on the show and I bet he’s going to keep cancelling on her for Rollins. Also lmao at her dad giving her some Nice Guy speech while he’s on his possible deathbed

And the mask inconsistency has always been terrible in SVU but jesus was it ever bad in this episode, the hospital scenes were the worst :gonk:

The Kathy Stabler reveal is kind of intriguing but yeah, idk if it’s enough to do another two hour special. going to watch it anyway though, hahaha

Much like crazy restaurant lady, I'm also wondering why nobody seems to be wearing their mask in the SVUniverse.

The real answer is that nobody wants to watch tv where all the actors faces are covered by masks, it's the same reason why superheroes are constantly removing their masks or helmets in movies.

So either you ignore covid like most shows, or you make a half-hearted effort to acknowledge it like SVU does, it's silly but there really isn't any alternative.

I have too many opinions about last week's shows, and I'm not going to try to keep it short because this is the internet. I don't know how many line breaks to make because I don't remember the last time I wrote a post that was more than like three sentences long, so bear with me.

What I truly disliked about the SVU episode is that it combined my least favorite things -- Rollins/Carisi teasing bullshit, and a COVID-centric A-plot. SVU is a show filled with horrifying plotlines, acts of violence, and so on, but COVID is just...I don't know. It's not something I want to think about that much when I'm watching TV. I'm already surrounded by reminders of it, I don't need/want it in my entertainment too. Anyway, I'm so loving over Benson the superhero. It seems like she's everywhere, directly involved with every case all the time, no matter what the case is about. Everyone around her either acts like a bumbling idiot or reveres Liv like a goddess. There is no reason that she should have been able to talk Vanessa out of shooting the broker right in the drat chest -- all she wanted was to prevent him from taking the key to her restaurant. She could have shot him and taken it; that would have been a crazy ill-thought thing to do, but she had lost her drat mind so it would have made perfect sense.

Also, Carisi/Nicole is giving me a very uncomfortable Jim/Karen from The Office vibe. After pining after Rollins, he gets himself a nice beautiful girlfriend who he's compatible with and makes sense with, while Rollins remains single. Everyone around Rollins thinks that they're together because cHeMiStRy or whatever. I hope Carisi is moving on, rather than "settling". And yet, I could totally see him dropping Nicole like a sack of potatoes the second that Rollins gives him the time of day. All that said, I really liked Rollins's dad's trashy Maury show wife. :allears:

So, about OC: that giant rear end explosion just emphasized how EXTREMELY DEAD Kathy should have been after getting car-bombed. In the hospital, she looked like she fell while rollerblading or something, and she ended up dying from INTERNAL injuries. They should have had to identify her burnt rear end by dental records. Anyway, Gina is going to die horribly. First of all, she knows she's being spied on -- wouldn't it occur to her that it would look extremely suspicious if she suddenly went completely dark, especially since his goons already tried to follow her? Second of all, flirting with her boyfriend's dad is...gauche, to say the least, no matter what kind of intel she's trying to get, and I'd think that Richard would be suspicious of her flirtation if not outright murderously furious that this woman is betraying his (alleged :haw: -- the "at least I THINK he's my son" line was loving hilarious) son. He isn't exactly a pacifist. This is the first episode of OC that actually made me curious about what was going to happen next so I think I might officially be hooked on this show. It was only a matter of time.

Side notes:
- Gina's dress was cute except for the weird puffy sleeve parts.
- Why the gently caress would a hacker expect to be able to use a train's Wi-Fi to do anything at all, let alone stealing information? I hate this Abby from NCIS/Garcia from Criminal Minds clone. At least Garcia and only Garcia has some kind of chemistry with the rest of the ensemble; this hacker girl is just there to be personality-less and "cool". Ugh.
- Eli is the milkman's son, right? Because like... Kathy & Elliot were two lily-white light-eyed Irish Catholics with four lily-white light-eyed children & the swarthy Eli "Joseph Gribble" Stabler, and seeing the whole family in the same room for that intervention made the difference in appearance even more obvious.

edit:
My mom & I will text each other if an episode with Buchanan is on. He is so loving awesome.

MorrisBae posted:

The "I love you" from Stabler was so...weird. I judged the awkwardness as Stabler just becoming even more unhinged as he tries to be vulnerable, but I know all these Benson/Stabler shippers are going to blow it out of proportion. Benson & Stabler should be just friends forever, and the kids should only ever think of her as their cool auntie.

I understand why he wouldn't leave his best friend alone at the hospital while her father was dying, but ugh. At least they didn't do the classic "comfort makeout" thing at the end.

I feel you on a lot of points, YTM, but for me this show (OC) is hanging on by a thread; I honestly think the only reason I watch it is because it's on after SVU and I don't have to change the channel.

I think part of the reason it isn't clicking for me is that Stabler Family Drama was the absolute worst part of the first twelve seasons of SVU, so having an eight-episode series with Stabler Family Drama as its core or throughline just automatically makes me yawn. The supporting cast also really isn't doing much for me, either. But ultimately, this just doesn't feel like a Law & Order to me. No doink-doink with setting cards, very whack-rear end and overly emotional music, and a strange cipher of a villain. I mean, it's only eight episodes, so I'll finish the run out of laziness if nothing else, but if it gets another season, I would really hope it sees a retooling as extreme--or more--as what Los Angeles got.

And, man, I can't get over how much the theme is just a slightly microwaved remix of the alternate Criminal Intent intro used for the non-Goren episodes.

Gotta love that peak season 7 - 10 insanity. As I recall, 7 opened with Let's Go Do Rape in the Rape Van Because Now Is The Time On Sprockets When We Rape, and had the Lynda Carter / Estella Warren crossover episode, as well as the introduction of Ludacris and the Norman Reedus "lol pills are bad" episode, and I think that year has the episode with neo-Nazis and Munch getting shot in the rear end. 8 gave us Benson going undercover with ecoterrorists, Connie Nielsen as Stabler's partner, Munch's crazy uncle, tons of Stabler Family Bullshit and Benson Brother Bullshit. 9 had Adam Beach and Diane Neal leaving in the same episode like two weeks after Jesse Martin left Vanilla in a very similar episode, Robin Williams as Villain Superman, Jared Harris as Not Hannibal Lecter (No, Seriously, He Really Isn't Hannibal), a whack-rear end episode about a coffee family sleeping with the same woman, and, of course, TURN ON THE SUN. And season 10, that has Cragen hugging a monkey, Carol Burnett sleeping with her developmentally delayed nephew, Hillary Duff: Anti-Vaxxer, and who can forget Dale Stuckey, CSU tech legend?

God, that show got so batshit insane under Neal Baer.

I get the feeling that Carisi’s relationship with Nicole ended during that same episode, after the way she acted.
But I agree that it feels really weird for the show to go back to the Rollins relationship so many years later.

I've been reluctant to watch the Organized Crime spin off because

A) SVU is just not good anymore. I truly gave up after their weird Joker-eque Liv bad guy arc.
B) Police climate in the US right now and what Stabler kinda represents to that.

Is it any good?

Also, someone on page 1 mentioned blue bloods. What I always appreciated about Law and Order is that they aren't afraid to show that cops are also super lovely and corrupt. Blue Bloods is basically nazi propaganda.

One thing from more recent episodes of SVU that I’ve enjoyed: the past few times they’ve investigated a crime that happened on a porn site or an app the owner has been played by John Waters. I don’t even think it was the same character either since I don’t think the other characters recognized him as the same guy iirc. Kind of hope that it’s just him every time and nobody notices that all the porn site owners look exactly the same :haw:

Peter Stone was an odd duck. I have a lot of respect for the actor--Philip Winchester uprooted his entire family from Oregon to Chicago because he was so strongly committed to Chicago Justice and felt it would have a long run ... and then it got canceled after thirteen episodes. He then moved to New York to do SVU, but eventually quit after two seasons because he's a committed family man, and they had moved back to Oregon (hated the midwest winter). But the character of Stone himself was just ... man, talk about a cipher, he was essentially whatever was needed for the given episode.

Edit: And, yeah, Organized Crime is only eight episodes, so they're bringing it back in mid-May to align with sweeps.
