Mets are batting Pillar 6th and Villar 7th, I guess because Luis Rojas likes playing word games more than he does winning baseball games

They suck so much. Just the laziest commentary, 3 weeks behind everything

Relatedly, has ESPN always put their own ads in the boxes behind the batter? The black cgi outline around the pitcher is distracting as hell. Who is buying this Mother’s high performance polish??

I thought it hit the rail in super slow mo but watching it at game speed it looked like it hit a seat and bounced back in

Still I think they shouldn’t have overturned it imo

I loving love Matty V. He was my favorite announcer partner for Mud Grant with the Padres. He and Mud had a lot of fun, and they enjoyed poking fun at each other. I always enjoy catching a Padres game on ESPN game and hearing him call the game again.

yeah, I was kind of confused when I started watching and everybody said how bad national announcers are until I realized that Vargesian is a local announcer too.

Also, I know he will probably never become the superstar people thought he would become, but I enjoy watching Jurickson Profar play. He's talented and seems genuinely happy to be out on the field.

He's good, and he called the 22 inning game between the Padres and the Rockies back in 2008 that the Friars managed to lose. I'd like to think that it was this game that convinced Matt that he was destined for bigger and better things because that team was loving embarrassing. And they used their 99 loss season to draft Donavan Tate third overall in 2009, a player who ended up never rising above Single A. He was highly thought of at the time, but given that this was the draft class that gave us MIKE loving TROUT, I mean...

Come on.

Thank God the Padres have better scouts now.

I know Matt Vasgersian mostly for the bajillion hours I threw into MLB The Show

Looking him up I got this gem too

quote:

Vasgersian first gained national exposure doing play-by-play for the XFL in 2001. Vasgersian's time with the league was tense; after the inaugural telecast in which he quipped "I feel uncomfortable" after a suggestive shot of the cheerleaders, Vince McMahon personally demoted him and replaced him with wrestling announcer and former Atlanta Falcons play-by-play man Jim Ross. At NBC's behest, Vasgersian returned to the first team broadcast halfway through the season.

which also taught me Jim Ross once did Falcons broadcasts
