A great day is upon us, fellow goons, and it comes only once a year! I am of course talking about the premier May 4th holiday: Demon Girl Appreciation Day. All posting related to Demon Girls and the appreciation thereof is encouraged. Other acceptable topics: demons, girls. Now you may be thinking to yourself "MPP, I ain't never heard of no Demon Girl Appreciation Day before! Are you making this poo poo up?" To that I submit the following: Google thinks it's real. So it's real.  It seems that for some years starting in 2013, a collection of various, mostly amateur artists tried to get Demon Girl Appreciation Day cemented as a real thing on May 4th. You can still find various hashtag'ed posts on twitter and tumblr to that effect, along with Demon Girl Appreciation Day (DGAD) drawings posted on May 4th from 2013 to at least 2018.       Unfortunately the energy seemed to have eventually petered out. Well, I think it's time to resume celebrating this special day once again! What is a demon girl? And why should I appreciate them? A demon girl is any creature which is identifiable as both demon and girl. No specific features are required. A demon girl does not have to be part human, though they can be. Like humans, demon girls have their own unique personalities. But they tend towards the best qualities of modern women. Strength, assertiveness, self-confidence, and independence. Also, they look cool! Now without further ado here are some examples of great demon girls to appreciate! Demon Girl #1: Diablo It is the year 2000. Y2K has not ended humanity. The United States has not gone collectively insane over 9/11. And the Something Awful forums are thriving. A world straight out of fantasy... and epic fantasy video games! Diablo 2 has just been released and revolutionizes the action RPG genre. Many of us remember playing this as kids, an EPIC journey through blighted cathedrals, scorching deserts, fetid swamps, and the depths of Hell itself! And at the end, this guy.  Wow, it's Diablo! A truly awesome video game boss. He's big, he's imposing, he spits fire, and he's just frickin cool. This dude is the bad boy boss of Hell and he looks the part. But little did we know then what lay in store. In 2012, video game giant Blizzard rocked the world again in 2012 when it released Diablo 3... and made Diablo a girl!!!   Sporting a sleek new appearance, Diablo returned to the gaming scene in style! Shocking gamers who expected the same old Diablo, this Diablo burst forth from a female human host to the surprise and delight of gamers everywhere. Uniting demons, girls, fantasy, and video games, Diablo is a truly LEGENDARY character fit for one of the biggest and most loved franchises in gaming. Diablo, you are a first class demon girl and we appreciate you! Demon Girl #2: Valkia The Bloody Warhammer Fantasy. It's nerdy, it's expensive, and it's a sausage fest. The Warhammer franchise, both Fantasy and 40K, has unfortunately had a rocky relationship with women for a long time. Among other issues was/is the lack of representation via good female characters. The lore had few important female characters, even fewer with actual playable models on the battlefield, and among those almost all of them are elves. But in this setting where men often hog the limelight, one figure stands apart: Valkia The Bloody.  Folks, this is no dainty elven princess or fragile spellcaster. Like a true demon girl, Valkia is badass to the bone and she's mixes it up with the best. Soaring onto the battlefield, this bombastic champion of the demon lords is a fearsome fighter and a LEGENDARY character from one of tabletop gaming's oldest franchises. Valkia The Bloody, we appreciate you!   Demon Girl #3: Zero Two Hailing from series "Darling in the Franxx" , anime hero and cosplay favorite Zero Two is part human, part demon, part reptile, and part girl.   With a strong independent spirit, an indomitable will, and a fiercely protective drive, Zero Two represents the best of both demons and girls. Also, she pilots a giant fighting robot, and that's always cool. Also she eventually, like... becomes a giant robot or something??? Tbh not quite sure what was going on there.  She's a fighter, a lover, and she makes the ultimate sacrifice for her friends. Zero Two, you are an inspiration and we appreciate you!  Demon Girl #4: Ardra Guest starring in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Devil's Due", Ardra is not technically a demon girl. Biologically, she's just an alien. However, I believe that her impressive job of nearly convincing (if not for those meddling Starfleet officers!!!) an entire planet that she is literal Satan and has come to claim their souls, she deserves honorary inclusion in the Hall of Demon Girls.  Ardra is a trickster worthy of the classic biblical Satan. Ardra takes advantage of near forgotten mythology on the planet Vantaxia wherein the population supposedly signed a pact with the devil to end their (existential level) troubles, for which the souls of their descendants would be claimed in 1000 years. With masterful deceit, she plays the part of the devil and whips the populace into a frenzied panic, believing that she's the real deal and has actually come to collect. Even some of the Enterprise crew, at wit's end, start to believe it. Also, she's sat in the Captain's chair and even condescendingly raised her feet while doing so, how many can say that?  Ardra, for your exemplary skills, demonic aspirations, and near flawless assumption of the role of Devil Queen, we appreciate you!
