I dont know why I'm even considering buying this at launch considering I'm only a small way through 3, likewise with the new Doom, gently caress all time put into Squadrons, just started Cyberpunk (still a buggy mess, dont do it). I'm awful.

So I downloaded that fan edited OG RE1 version that adds in the color uncut intro, it also allows you to configure the controls...and that’s new right? For some reason, and I haven’t played PSX RE1 in a long, I don’t remember that, but oh man being able to remap the ready button and the dash button...just so good to use.

its forever.

I don't care for Mercenaries so I'm only playing it just to get any achievements tied to it and whatever unlocks you can get for the singleplayer (if there are any), hopefully it doesn't take long.

Getting super excited. Having 2 remake, 3 remake, and now 8 come out relatively close to each other has been a treat. I remember playing 6 on release and being worried the series would never course correct. Needless to say the moment in 7 when I realized I was playing a traditional(ish) RE game was my favorite part.

I should buy and read that Itchy Tasty book before Friday.

Agreed. I pre ordered it and super hyped too but gently caress me I left myself with too much poo poo to do this weekend. Play length doesn't bother me either because I always go in blind and take my sweet time on my first run, avoiding FAQ's.

I wish there were more horror games being put out there. You mentioned RE, 3 and now 8 but there hasn't been much else besides that.

Now that I'm playing through the Leon second run storyline in the 2 remake, I'm remembering one thing that's disappointing: I don't really like this Leon voice actor. A lot of the lines (especially incidental dialogue) just kinda fall flat for me, like it just hits "generic young guy" most of the time. Compared to RE4 Leon consistently hitting that pitch-perfect level of corny action hero doof, I'm a little bit worried about how he's gonna fare in the remake.

It's RE, there will be infinite unlocks. I just hope it's like 7 where you can turn any weapon into an infinite, but I have a feeling it's going to be more like 4 where you have to keep replaying for more money to upgrade each one.

It's an unfortunate side effect of the VA strike that went down and Capcom went scab. Otherwise we would have had classic Claire/Yoko, which I will always be disappointed we didn't get.

Both of the old Claire and Leon VA's at the time said they would have loved to have done Re2make.

Yeah that's literally 3/4 of the fun of fighting. Shot to the knee, suplex or roundhouse to clear the crowd, rinse/repeat. It's like...like...like Chris shooting a rock instead of punching it.

I can understand it early on, because hanging back at a distance was my initial default mode. But as soon as you start getting in there, it becomes obvious the game was very much designed around the intent of that playstyle.

I'm just curious if those unlocks will be tied to single player speed run times like they tend to be, or getting stuff in Mercenaries to get stuff for the singleplayer. I'm wondering if they'll just be separate unlocks for each mode and have nothing to do with each other. I hope anyway.

Resident Evil 2 had the perfect balance between great first time experience and great game to speed-run. The routes for this game are ingrained into my brain and it doesn't make the game any less fun because even with infinite weapons, it just feels GOOD to try an beat your previous time.

I've read a few reviews so far and it sounds like your enjoyment of Village will depend on what you're looking for in Resident Evil. If you loved 4 then chances are you'll enjoy Village a whole heck of a lot. If you loved 7 and wanted that to be the new tone of the series going forward you'll likely be very disappointed.

Reviews seem pretty positive, and I've seen ~12 hours on normal quoted more then once as a completion time. But also that there's really good variety between the areas which is very exciting to hear. Much rather a 12 hour game where everything is new then 50 hours of doing the same poo poo over and over.
