Hell yeah. I fly the Ka-50 half the time now, and am getting the Hind and eventually the Apache and this looks cool.

I posted a couple weeks ago about finding good Helicopter servers for DCS. I've found a couple good ones that I thought I would share.

  • SAR Server - Good search and rescue missions + Firefighting + Slingloading. Fun if you don't want to do combat. Random missions.
  • Rotorheads - PvE CAS server. Despite the name, you can fly most of airplane modules too. However, this doesn't have enemy planes so you can actually do CAS without worrying about getting shot down from 40 miles away. It's usually not too busy, and if you die your death spot becomes a SAR mission for the rest of the server. Maybe my favorite server because I've wanted to do CAS with the A-10 and Ka-50, but servers like Through the Inferno and Hoggit have so many enemy planes that you just get shot down.

Edit: Speaking of helicopters, a DLC Bell 47-G2 is coming to MSFS on the 30th.

One more ad, for those who might've grabbed DCS modules from the sale.

Time: 2000 UTC, 01 May, Saturday
Goon server, our coop mission.
Lasts for about two hours.

This will be played on Persian Gulf.
Planes: F-14, F-15, F-16, JF-17, and F-18, all available.

Mission type is to do a strike at a chemical weapons factory with a decent SAM ring around it, located at Minab, Iran. Departure from Dubai International. 0600hrs in the morning, three layer clouds. There's strike, escort, and SEAD roles available.
Difficulty isn't super hard, so if you are on the fence about hopping in to try, now's your chance! We encourage newbies. We'll also try to slot around to get an experienced flight lead for each beginner.
It'll be played on OpenBeta client, which is easy to switch to. We will be using SimpleRadioStandalone. If you are lost, ask in Discord and you'll be helped!

Also room for a guy wanting to try Air Battle Manager-role, the nerd in an AWACS guiding other planes. Basics are simple to learn, and the client has our goon server side licences, so you need zero dollars, and not even a computer capable of running DCS because LotATC runs on a potato.

LotATC is also super easy to use, just takes a few minutes to familiarise with the options and how to customise it ever so slightly so it shows all relevant information at all times, for any prospective ABM.

I don't have anything to really compare it to since the last joystick I owned was one of these:

but I love mine, bought it for MSFS2020 and ended up enjoying it so much that I picked up DCS, a couple Ace Combats, SW Squadrons, and Project Wingman just so I had more excuses to use it. Definitely interested in all the add-on pieces they're supposed to be releasing for it too.

It's a good stick. It straddles the fence between the older top-end generation (TM Warthog and the like) and the current boutique top-end stuff (Virpil and the higher-priced VKB sticks). It's been around for long enough that any uglier hidden warts should have appeared, and none have.

It's not quite as customisable or button-festooned as some of the top offerings, but that still leaves it solidly in the “really good stick that will last you a long while” until and unless you get very demanding and eclectic in what you want your flight stick to be able to do. You'll know when you get there…

I just got birthday money and despite otherwise being a functioning adult I spent $60 or whatever on the thrustmaster Airbus side stick despite owning a honeycomb alpha and an old but still fine x56 because MSFS has the flybywire Airbus and it just doesn’t feel right not using an appropriate stick for the plane, or worse, a yoke.

Sim peripherals are utter brain worms.

The stick is nice, though.

Carenado released a Seneca V for FS2020. I haven't flown it a lot, but if you like the Seneca is general, it seems quite nice. GPS is still afflicted as with every plane, but the other instrumentation is quite nice especially if you want something that's well-equipped but not full-glass. It's a bit expensive for an addon, like most of their stuff, but so far I really like it.

I like the Seminole quite a bit and it's become my go-to for quick flights. The Seneca is very similar, except it's slightly upgraded in pretty much every way: A little faster, a little more powerful, flies a little higher and also has a little more capability in terms of instrumentation and de-icing.

I can second the Seneca and if you are interested in both the Seminole and the Seneca, you could probably just get the Seneca and be happy with it. The Seminole is nice too however, just with slightly fewer features. I'm definitely a fan of the twin-engines that Carenado has been releasing.

I'm having what seems to be an incredibly niche control issue with MFS 2020 and I'm pretty decent at google and really can't find this issue anywhere.

The computer in my bedroom is a powerhouse. It basically runs the game perfect. I want to use Steam remote play to use my computer to do the heavy lifting and stream the game to a computer elsewhere in my house. Streaming the game isn't a problem, it seems to be fine, however I have an X52 I would like to use on the client PC and MFS doesn't seem to detect when it is plugged into the client PC, only the host PC. Aside from getting 100 ft of USB extensions with repeaters with a fleeting hope that this will work (I'm only sort of naive), is there a way I can trick the software into thinking the stick is plugged into the host PC? Has anyone had this issue? With any game/controller combination?

Have you messed around with Steam’s controller management stuff? It has its own profiler, and you need to make sure it’s managing your input devices and passing that stuff along. It can be finicky.

Haven't done this in MSFS but as alluded to your first step is get the stick recognized and mapped in Big Picture mode on the client PC. Everything needs recognized on it in Big Pictures controller handler to be sent to the host PC. Second step is it's probably gonna be recognized as a generic steam controller on MSFS side so even if you have a mapping for the stick you like on the host PC already you probably need a new one mapped for the generic device it's gonna recognize it as.

Hey folks, just a heads up that I posted my Thrustmaster HOTAS One and T.Flight rudder pedals for sale on the SA Mart:

Did logitech ever fix the stiction issues with the old saitek sticks? I had to give up on my saitek hotas for a thrustmaster because the stick was just impossible to use for precision movements. The stick was held upright by a spring pressing down on a plastic plate that sat on top of a plastic ring and those two plastic parts had to slide across each other to move the stick around. I don't know if it was the plate having to slide up and down on the actual stick, or the plate sliding on the plastic ring on the base, but I would move the stick to one position, and then it would get stuck and require more force to get it to unstick which made for jerky flying. No amounts of lubrication on any of the sliding parts seemed to do anything. I eventually just gave up and bought the thrustmaster which has very smooth movement.

The Xbox version isn't going to be out for a while. When it comes to missing airports, it's pretty easy to make them if you don't mind getting your hands dirty with the SDK. Especially with a spot that's there in the satellite imagery, you can just slap down an invisible runway that lines up with the one that's already visible. Or in this case, you can simply download one that someone else made: https://flightsim.to/file/9765/mpto-aeropuerto-intl-tocumen-panama

I've seen a bunch of horror stories about the x-56. I think people have been generally much happier with the X-52 Pro if you're looking for something in that style. (Get a VKB Gladiator.)

I have the x56 from about seven years ago when it was still branded the rhino. Maybe it’s improved but the build quality felt pretty cheap. There were some fairly sharp steel edges on the little guards around the switches (not enough to cut you, but uncomfortable for what’s a pointless/aesthetic feature) it has a ton of buttons but I dislike fake switches immensely (I’d rather have them just be buttons if they’re going to work like a button.) ergonomically it’s good, throwing the throttles forward always feels fun. After this long it has a little wiggle in the spring and the throttle sometimes gets a little sticky, but I’m not a crazy precise pilot so these only bother me just slightly, though more as the stick ages. The buttons are a mixed bag. A few feel super tight and clicky, others feel mushy and move a lot.

It doesn’t feel worth the price, but it’s not terrible if you really like the look and feel of it. I bought my friend a T16000 and maybe it was just new, but it felt better in my hands than the x56.

Some of the stuff I've read indicates that the Logitech branded X-56 is higher quality than the Saitek "Rhino" version but that all sounds pretty disappointing. I can only find a couple at a reasonable price online anyway.

It's more of a future purchase thing for me, I think next will be TrackIR (if I can find one) or a VR headset.

I got a new Logitech X-56 a couple weeks ago and it's pretty solid so far. Everything works and feels good.

I will say that the software is a real pain. Logitech's site only hosts the X-56's 32-bit installer which absolutely will not install on Windows 10. You have to go to the internet at large to find the 64-bit installer.

Once you do find the 64-bit software and get it installed though, it's all good.

Yeah, that's the same thing I heard too when I was hunting for joysticks. The Logitech branded versions of Saitek's stuff has a higher build quality, apparently. If you have enough spending money to buy a x56 shortly after buying a T.16000M, though, then I'd honestly just recommend that you buy the VKB gladiator and pair it with your T.16000 throttle. It's a great stick.

Speaking of the T.16000M, there are 20 available on Amazon for MSRP, if anyone's still looking for an affordable HOTAS. Is supply and demand finally leveling out in the flight stick market?

How's the T16000 do in goony atmospheres? My T Flight One warranty replacement lasted about 3 months more and I can probably make it work again if I go in and tear all the cat hair and litter clay dust out of sensor bits but it's a cheap poo poo joystick so maybe the pricier ones would last a little better.
