Microcenter has had the 5900x in stock for a bit too, but have it listed at $700 in store and on the website. Up until earlier this week it was checking out at $550 according to the Discord, but when I was there on Friday, it rung up at $700. I bought it anyway, but will most likely return it if I can't get a price match before the return window closes.

Switching the eviction policy to random, for example, would throw a monkey wrench into the works of this style of exploit. Or you could just have private uOp caches for each logical core.

Stupid question but are no x570 motherboards 5000 series compatible out of the box? My order for the 5900x is delayed because I ordered the AM4 bracket for my cooler, so I asked if I could get the board I wanted added as it's also on back order. I asked them if any x570 boards are compatible out of the box and they said no. I thought by now if it's a board that isn't even in stock right now it should have a bios thats compatible?

Get a board with a decent flashback utility, that way you can flash to a newer BIOS without needing a currently compatible CPU. Asus one is pretty good from experience, anything BIOS related for MSI is a loving wild ride. e: you'll probably want to flash the BIOS even if the board you get is compatible with 5000 series out of the box to enable resizable BAR support which is worth a few frames in supported titles. The box for the MSI Tomahawk x570 I recently received came with a "ready for Ryzen 5000" sticker on it, glad I didn't have to update BIOS. The serial number also contains the manufacturing date, mine was only a few weeks old. I've been thoroughly enjoying my new 5950x, which is overkill but was easer to find than 5900x. HUGE upgrade over my old i5, fine temperatures, no complaints besides waiting like 4 months to get it.

Only thing now I need is a new case, looking at the fractal meshify 2 compact. Gonna be kind of a gamery blingy build compared to the previous one which was a weird mATX cube case which to be honest is a total pain to work in and the 'premium rubber' finish has now turned into a horrible sticky mess after being exposed to sunlight over the years.

Another vouch for Phanteks build quality - I have the Enthoo 719 which is probably way too big for what you're after, but the general fit and finish as well as included accessories are up there with the best in my experience.

I recently got the Gamemax F15M, which is maybe a little on the lower budget side (little things like no plastic grommets included) but I'm really liking the 2x200mm front fan set up. Makes for a very quiet and cool case. I know LianLi do their own 2x200mm version, and there's also a Phanteks one too? Or maybe it was Cooler Master. Anyway, it's cool EDIT - right yeah, the LianLi Lancool 215 and the Cooler Master H500

My current case has a 200mm fan and I hate it because it's near impossible to replace with a different one, it's also the one fan that makes a weird noise in an otherwise quiet system. I had a look at the Phanteks case and I still think I prefer the way the Meshify 2 looks, the fact that it also has a type-c header and comes with 3 fans is a nice bonus too.

Steve hates the Fractal Design 7 because it's not an airflow test, but he'll also admit it was impossible to make it loud enough to fairly rank in their noise normalised testing.

Steve's noise normalized testing doesn't account for non-fan noise (like coil whine or hard disks) so it automatically discounts the benefits of case doors and acoustic foam. Their tests are great, but they're not Silent PC Review style. To their credit, they are very open about it. You can always open the door of that case if one wants better fan airflow when needed.

It's not so much GamersNexus stuff (though being well cooled helps) as those cases are somewhat compact while offering a few little touches of gamer bling. Particularly having three ARGB fans already included in the Phanteks is a pretty good deal. I prefer the P500A myself, but it's a little large for what you're looking for.

B & H has the 5800x on sale right now for essentially $420 with no tax (with their credit card). I'm kinda tempted to get it and sell my 5600x. I mostly game (I have a RTX 3090) and do basic work stuff (MS office), so I'm not sure it's worth the effort to upgrade.

What recommended non-Asus boards are there? I say non Asus because I tried a prebuilt with a 3070 before returning it and it had an Asus X570 and it did not play well with my 2.1 setup at all.

I bought some 3600CL16 2x16 B-Die when I upgraded, and i absolutely don't think its worth it from what I've seen. Here's my testing. IF/UCLK always in sync, everything is 2 ranks per channel, dual channel on, no PBO or overclocking, 3090 FT3 Ultra with stock settings, same boot drive, win/driver version etc:  No 8700K+3600 cause the B-Die was super unhappy with the 8700K and I wasnt gonna sit there and figure out why when I had the new CPU to play with.  I also did a lot of tests with massaging all of the subtimings, playing with PBO settings all of that... basically none of it was worth the effort considering the stability battle to dial it all in. The only thing that really meaningfully raised the scores was turning SMT... off. But the gains werent huge. I'm gonna retest all the tweaking stuff later, unfortunately windows pushed an update and I gotta redo the numbers for some of it. But I don't expect anything to change meaningfully. As long as the memory is ~3200 or above, turn XMP on (and resizable BAR) and walk away.
