It's always been a bit of an open secret that the French director is always dodgy. When commentators are mentioning it during games, you know there's always something to it.

Lions coaches have been announced.
Attack - Gregor Townsend
Defence - Steve Tandy
Forwards - Robin McBryde
Kicking Specialist - Neil Jenkins

So that's Scotland's quota of representation filled.

The Pro14/16/∞ Rainbow Cup has now been split into two tournaments, one in the UK and Ireland and one in South Africa, after the South African sides were denied entry to the UK. There will be no cross hemisphere games.

10/10 planning.

Each captain gets the right to challenge one decision a match which then goes to the TMO to review. A bit like in Cricket.

The Women's 6N final thing they've done this year is a loving weird game. It's dry, it's mild, it's calm, it's a decent looking pitch. It's nearly half time and they're 0-0.

e - England finally barged over the line. Last play of the half.

I love Leinster and I couldn't be happier that Jordie Barrett has signed with them on a short term deal.
I like how every match now ends with a game of Lucky Guess :

* Winning team scores a try, or kicks the ball into touch

* Losing team's captain complains to the referee, and gets to play Lucky Guess,, where he has to think of some sort of obscure rule that could conceivably have been broken, in the last 30 seconds.

* Referee and TMO both watch footage of the last 30 seconds of the game, while laughing at the absurdity of the captain's Lucky Guess.

I haven't seen a captain win at Lucky Guess so far this weekend, but I've now seen two captains unsuccessfully complain about something that isn't actually a rule, and the referee going "well that's not actually a rule. How about we check for obstruction, instead?"

Yeah, said he needs surgery. That's a huge shame, he was most likely going to be touring and in a good place to start at 13.

Launchbury did an ACL as well, probably would've been on the fringes of a Lions squad but it's still a lovely old time of the season to catch any sort of injury.

Gutted for North, reckon he could've pushed for a Test spot.

ACLs are a hell of a thing when they go, big range of damage as well. It could "only" be a few stitches to tighten it back up, it might be a full through-bone implant job.

If manu is "healthy" he will definitely go. Any significant leaks yet? I cannot picture anything really crazy in the picks, maybe an uproar over Finn Russell but I bet he goes and then doesn't make the test team

Only Youngs pulling out so far. The BBC are desperate for Marcus Smith, Danny Care, and Manu to go but I think it's a long shot for either of them. Finn will probably go but he's going to have to prove he's worth a bench spot over Farrell or Biggar and that could be tough for him if he doesn't find form.

A fully fit Manu Tuilagi will probably be on the plane, and Marcus Smith being part of the mid-weekers isn't too far-fetched. poo poo, an uncapped player being a Lion before playing test rugby for their nation isn't exactly unprecedented - Will Greenwood, IIRC, is the most recent example.

Vaders Jester

Smith going wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world and uncapped players is a bit of a tradition but shredding Worcester is a little different from getting banged up by the Sharks and the Bulls, never mind maybe making it to playing SA. If Smith does go, it's a huge kick in the teeth for Ford who I think is a better 10 *at this point in time*.

E: What I most look forward to is the inevitable no Scots/less English players and the absolute frenzy on rugby forums for the next few months.

I honestly think Gatland will go very conservative here with alot of guys who have toured before getting another go, with the prospect of players being in bubbles for the whole tour the "good tourist" badge might mean a bit more this time.

Could see Manu going now, there haven't been many centres putting their hands up and with North out I could see Tuilagi push for a Test spot.

Still, looking forward to seething over my lunch tomorrow when John Cooney isn't picked, especially since Gatland opened the door to non-Test players in the squad :argh:

I foresee 4 (+/-1) Scotsmen. I don't think he'd dare go below 3, I don't think he'll pick more than 5 unless he really decides to throw the dice and pick a whole bunch of <10 cap players.

Vaders Jester

Yeah, Scots in with a good shout are Hogg, Watson, Russell, Price, Duhan VDM. Then you have the outsiders/injury cover like J Gray, Harris, Sutherland, Fagerson, Turner, Ritchie who probably aren't in the initial squad but are on call for when injuries happen, especially with the smaller numbers going. With Townsend and Tandy in the coaching setup, I think the 50/50 Scots have a better chance of making it.

Cooney missing out will be tough, not sure what he needs to do to get into the Irish squad, never mind the Lions.

There is so much money tied up in this tour that Finn Russell and Danny Care would have to be kept under 24/7 surveillance by armed guard, to make sure they don't sneak off drinking, break some sort of local law, and jeopardise millions of pounds in sponsorship deals.

But that's a moot point, because there's no loving way Finn Russell and Danny Care are going to South Africa.

Manu Tuilagi might be technically fit but he's still played no rugby for months now. I would say for centres putting their hands up Chris Harris has done.

Marcus Smith is fun to watch and if I was going to pick a wildcard 10 it would be him or Danny Cipriani.
