Carlos puts up with so much poo poo over the course of the show. Literally every single friend he has betrays him, and at the end of the series they're basically all gone. Oh, other thought that occurred to me: Kiera is starting to get affected by the mental collapse that time travellers experience, right? And that's why she becomes so obsessive and has that weird dream at the start of season 4? I was always sad that they didn't do more with that plot line, and it'd be a nice nod to it if that was the case.

I'm 3 days sober from stressful TV / Movies. I'm 46, pretty much my entire life I've watched violent, suspenseful stuff. Not over the top gore stuff, but stuff like the sopranos, 24, breaking bad, Gomorrah, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Marvel movies etc etc. In recent years with streaming I watch something like that pretty much every single night. Even stuff like Halt and Catch Fire is pretty stressful, even though there isn't much violence. But I've been on a path of self healing for 3 years now, from depression and anxiety, and I'm realizing that these types of shows and movies don't help. They add stress to my life and make my sleep worse. Even animated stuff like Pixar movies are nothing but stressful situations for almost the whole movie. So I'm taking a break for a while and we'll see if I enjoy them when I go back. I know at our core, we are just Fear and Love and most of us have a huge imbalance towards Fear and that makes us choose things that feed into that Fear. Much like the no fap challenge, if anyone want to join me feel free and report the results. Currently watching Shitt's Creek and the Life in Color Netflix nature show. Or you can slow boat your way to some good TV.

Just finished Them on Amazon, and I can't say I recommend it. The pitch was absolutely Us meets Get Out meets Lovecraft Country and it shows. It doesn't do much that Lovecraft Country didn't do better and it was really uncomfortable to watch. At some point early they cross the line over to what is essentially torture porn of a young black family and, unlike Lovecraft Country, rarely give the characters any means or opportunity to fight back. Even when they do, the victories are obviously pyrrhic and it's just depressing. I get that the historical period itself is depressing and I'd be fine if it was just white people being monsters but adding a supernatural element in the form of poorly motivated racist ghosts cheapens the actual culpability of the people and the generational trauma of the protagonists. It's good to make shows that confront America's history of racism. It's bad if you make those shows in a way that a racist might enjoy. Also, Allison Pill's character went nowhere and was dumb.

So I'm taking a break for a while and we'll see if I enjoy them when I go back. Backing us Psych. It just is a nice slice of happy yet not dumbed down. Genuinely great cast that have amazingly chemistry and solve mysteries. I still pop it on now and then when I need something just ... light. We all need times to have something just chill on. Enjoy goon. I wish I could think of something else for you... oh wait - Red Green Show! That show is very light and just happy and I can't remember one moment of anything too hard. Warning: very, very Canadian. But that might help some too.... check it out. Also Bob Ross. You can watch Bob Ross and feel zen while learning (or getting better) at painting. Something completely different that a goon in the Invincible thread turned me on to: Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal. gently caress this show is good. Animated by Genndy Tartakovsky of course but far more loving metal than I ever would have suspected. Semi Conan early human named Spear and his Dino buddy Fang have fun road trip adventures. A bit gory and more than a little dark but it's just engaging and downright beautiful. The writing is very Robert E Howard and Edgar Rice Burroughs with a little bit of Lord Dunsany. Mostly goes without dialogue but it somehow works. Highly, highly recommended but not for Carlos as it can get intense... like right off the bat.

There's always the maker shows, like Repair Shop, British Baking Show, Nadiya Bakes, etc. We often have something like that in rotation because, yeah, we don't alway need to see something with a grizzly murder or the tension slider turned up to 11. Some of the contest shows are just gross the way they edit and manufacture stress though. A lot of them are just unwatchable for me. We just watched Life in Color, really cool stuff.

Psych is definitely my happy place show. I also started a Schitt's Creek rewatch this week. Psych does have some stressful more serious life threatening episodes though. They're rare but they tend to happen once or twice a season.

Lovecraft Country blended real human evil alongside monsters brilliantly, like they actually managed to make the racism scarier than the supernatural elements. This just looked like a hacky imitation of that attempt with cartoonishly evil whites. Remy Marathe fucked around with this message at 02:15 on May 8, 2021 |

It's a bit of a cliché at this point (and not even technically a series in the traditional sense), but Bob Ross' Joy of Painting is wonderful for this kind of thing. Even if you've got no particular interest in painting, it's just incredibly relaxing to watch a supremely pleasant man just sit back and create something nice for an hour at a time.

Some events happen in late season 1 that may bother people with a history of trauma related to sexual abuse/assault. Very vague spoilers: 1. Child molestation storyline 2. An on-screen rape Less-vague but still non-specific spoiler: In both cases, the victim of abuse changes from protagonist to antagonist as a result, which isn't the best statement on victims and recovery. I enjoy the series overall, but I wish they'd gone a different direction with both of those things.

Started running through Mythic Quest on Thursday. Had no idea the next season started the next day. I avoided it because I thought Mac's character was gonna be the kinda egocentric character that has been in a thousand things. He's actually a little more fleshed out and has emotions from time to time. All the Ubisoft games as interstitials is a huge lol. Edit: This side episode with Jake Johnson and Cristin Milioti is real good. Fartington Butts fucked around with this message at 18:11 on May 8, 2021 |

Binged through Jupiter's Legacy. Like hundred times better then the lovely Millar comic lol. Though I wish we would have a show about the flashbacks, I got a major Carnivale vibe from them and there was some genuine terror there, and I liked it more then the modern setting. Hope they continue with them on Season 2. Discounting Watchmen, probably the best superhero thing I've watched.
