Twee Pop is probably the rock/indie pop subgenre with the highest proportion of female vocals, and it's fast-paced and upbeat by design, so I think you would have good luck checking out popular/praised bands from that subgenre. The Tiger Trap song kingcobweb mentioned is part of it, and I'll add these bands for starters

Camera Obscura

Alvvays

Kero Kero Bonito

Dolly Mixture

Talulah Gosh

Also Spiderbait isn't really twee but if you like the above stuff you'll probably enjoy at least their Janet English-sung tracks

Lana Del Rey was uh... Not good, I did not enjoy the sad stuff, and Marina/Marina did a lot of songs about break ups and what not, which really didn't do it for me either.

Marina/Marina had some good stuff I really liked, specifically Purge the Poison

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5u3kP85LYI

I went to Neko Case's website, and the 4 songs she has on their are again slow crooning? (Maybe I don't know what this word means,) I really like faster paced stuff. Like, all of the girl with guitar songs I posted are definitely upbeat, and chipper without hitting super long notes? Like high tempo?

Still this purge the poison is awesome.

I also listened to the UK jazz band stuff here.

I know this rec wasn't for me, but this song was really good for the first minute or so, and then I realized it was 7 minutes long with no lyrics and kind of checked out. I also like that persona song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FG85wVSV3o

This had the same problem as the Lana Del Rey and other stuff, just way too much sad slow stuff, at least on their top search results.

I also found out about Last.FM which is pretty good, though it doesn't work very well on my phone, which is sad.

i think you might be really into french house and disco, and the latter is extremely poc driven and queer friendly

i’d say try listening to daft punk’s discovery (if you’re into animation i think you can find interstella 5555 on youtube which is basically an album length music video) and maybe pick up chic’s greatest hits

I used Last.FM for years and probably have over a million plays listed on there. But I stopped us ing it because it was constantly double, triple, and more playing songs. I eventually quit when it said I played some Disturbed song 50+ times in a row. I have a reputation to uphold!

These guys are wildly deeply problematic " March 2019, Australian musician Zheani Sparkes released a diss track titled "The Question" accusing Jones of allegedly sexually assaulting her in South Africa in 2013. According to Sparkes, Jones drugged her and trafficked her to Africa, as well as sending explicit photos of her to cast members of Chappie"

Honestly had no idea - didn't really know anything about them except a couple songs, and thought the sound profile might fit. Thanks for the heads up; I edited them out of my post (you may want to edit the quote to remove the youtube link).

I've found the Ethiopian rapper Tommy Cash to be a perfectly good substitute for Die Antwoord once their shittiness was brought out into the open. Cash has a similar vocal style to Ninja, and is also fairly ... uhhh.... out there artistically. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ihsAv08Pi8

To loop back to pop/indie with female vocalists, he's has also done some stuff with Charli XCX (who Hooplah mentioned off-handedly) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxnFaq5SaqI and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nK3mbxs7IOU, and to Boba Pearl, I'd say check out her catalog if you're not that familiar outside of her big hits (Boom Clap and Break the Rules being the stupidly popular stuff). At this point she's doing a lot of hyperpop stuff at this point and collaborating with a ton of interesting artists, particularly queer/LGBTQ+ and poc. From listening to a bit of what you posted you liked I think you might find something agreeable in there.

Also, Caroline Polachek (formerly of the band Chairlift) may fit the bill as well. Newer solo stuff has a sort of ethereal gothic quality without being slow and mopey.

Narrative songs

So my taste is on the more theatre-kid side, but I'm also a fan of musical narrative. Alongside the Marina recommendation, I would definitely recommend The Scissor Sisters. They are super pop-y, but they very catchy, have campy melodies, and they're very fun to vibe to as their song structure evolves. All their albums are quality, but for you I'd specifically recommend their first two: Self titled and Ta-Dah (though I think Night Work is their best album). While they're not musical-esque in that they specifically have a plot, they're musical-esque in that they have strong, evolving hooks, and a theatrical sense of humor.

If you want to feel like a hipster but still want a fun, story-based narrative, I'd recommend The Decemberists as well. Specifically, The Mariner's Revenge and The Rake's Song. Those are folksy, early 2010s, straight up plot songs, and are very fun.

This might be kind of vague, but can someone offer me some modern bands (2010 at earliest) to check out that are Megadeth-esque? I just want some modern bands that have awesome riffing, but also aren't afraid to be goofy and campy in their presentation. I want some more music that helps pump the blood and raise the endorphins.

Since a lot of his recording was in the 30s and 40s, he’s kinda one of those guys like Lionel Hampton, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington (if he stopped recording in the 50s), where the bulk of their output is compilations and a lot of it was on labels that don’t exist anymore so it’s been re-compiled posthumously. Just looking through the discography though, there’s a trio album with Lionel Hampton and Buddy Rich that might be worth trying to track down. I want to hear that myself so I’ll let you know if I can find it.

Yeah, I got that recently. It's not bad but I have been so thoroughly taught culturally that "vibraphone + jazz = corny" that it's honestly hard to listen to. That's a me problem though.

If you want to completely break yourself of that idea listen to Milt Jackson’s fusion-y records from the 70s. Try Sunflower. It’s Freddie Hubbard, Herbie, Billy Cobham, Ron Carter. It’s only corny if you think fusion is corny in general, and I could understand that.

I don’t think milt Jackson’s playing with MJQ is corny at all, either. Lionel Hampton kinda is but it’s also foundational stuff. He was also a big touring act, much more than a recording artist.
