Thanks for all the good suggestions, but it wasn't any of those.

I knew they were on the right track, though, so I went through a classic rock playlist, including half a dozen Bob Seger songs, and I think I found the one I was thinking of:

Does anyone have any clue who did this specific cover of Girls Just Want To Have Fun? https://vocaroo.com/17idhTWMhbVC

I've listened to dozens, possibly hundreds of covers of the song on Spotify and Youtube and cannot for the life of me find an actual match. The mystery has been driving me crazy off and on for years.

There's a particular bit of instrumental classical music that is very common to old Looney Tunes cartoons. Here's a sequence I made for it: https://onlinesequencer.net/1963974

Does anyone know the title? It's driving me nuts because you can't search online for tunes; only titles.

This isn't 'identify a song', it's 'identify a specific cover of a song'. My dad had a CD changer in his car decades ago and one of the songs was Rocky Top Tennessee. When I went to look it up recently, it turns out 1) The original version was faster than whoever was singing it on that CD song, and 2) It's been covered a LOT.

So yeah, I'm looking for a cover of Rocky Top that is 1) Sung by a male. 2) Sung with a low voice, and 3) Sung a little slower than how the song is traditionally, or originally, sung.

It's hard to judge what's considered a low voice in comparison when a lot of old timey country singers are so drat nasal.

Is it Porter Wagoner or Bill Anderson?

Here's one that's been on my mind recently... This might be vague...

It's a synthy, slightly downtempo song that every once in a while has some videogamey sound effects sprinkled in, like a mario or a sonic ring sfx. It's chill, in a major key, and the bass line iirc just bops around on quarter notes in a I-V like pattern. It's not dubstep, but it's kind of synth-wavey with a beat. Heard it again on a Tik Tok fairly recently too, but I think the song's been around for a few years.

Shall we be trotting home again?
Alright, I am digging deep on this one but I am going out of my mind.

I was skiing 8 weeks ago listening to Kool AD on apple music. the album ended and so it moved me into whatever it thought was "Kool AD Adjacent music". No idea if this track even featured Kool AD, maybe but I don't think so.

From the lyrics I parsed skiing, it was a scathing indictment of US hegemony specifically as it relates to the middle east. It was a kool AD-esque rap track. It had a chorus that was something like

US Forces, hard at work
If you gently caress with these boys, you're gonna get 'merced

The "gently caress with.... you're gonna get `merced" is the part I am surest of. It may also have mentioned mujahedeen by name, if not, it did reference various groups over there. So, it seemed to be a song about people oppressed by US imperialism in the mideast, and definitely had a line something like "gently caress around with these boys and you're gonna get 'merced" that was repeated over and over.

Holy poo poo, an online sequencer, that's such a good idea!

I've asked like two or three times in this thread already, but could never really explain it. There's this electro song, and it's by someone 'like' Har Mar superstar, but I don't think its him.

It starts like this: https://onlinesequencer.net/2015853 (ish) and at the end of this riff (which is I think entirely synth) there's a high pitched voice goes 'Lets get it started' and later says 'something something something something Tonight--ah-haaah ha!'

It's been driving me mad, because, it was just a song I listened to a lot, and have just the intro stuck in my head, but I've got no clue what it is. It should be something I can just immediately name, but I've never been able to find it again!

This might be a wild guess, but with the ubiquitousness of lo-fi hip hop mixes on youtube maybe one of those passed by; and there's a few 'nintendo' ones with video game sounds sprinkled through them. I.e https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JMvn0wfABQ the second song (file select) for example seems to match your description a bit with sound and feel but not exactly your recreation. Maybe this is a direction to look into ?

Slightly different type of request: which band uses a Basquiat-style outline of a crown as their logo? Possibly enclosed in a circle.

I think they're American, possibly a socially-aware 2000s/2010s hip-hop (?) group of middling popularity. Not huge but had a dedicated following over the years.

There's at least one white woman (prominent role, possibly frontwoman) and one white man in the group, both now probably in their late 30s or perhaps 40s. The latter was me-too'd a year or two ago, leading to either his expulsion, resignation, or the effective break up of the band.

I seem to recall this caused a lot of soul-searching and grief because the group were vocal about sexism etc. and the man's conduct flew in the face of this public image.

No idea what their music sounds like unfortunately.

Thanks to anyone who can help solve the mystery!

Mostly I remember the MV lol. The lyrics are I think about body image or diet culture. Video is very brown and involves a girl sitting at a vanity trying on different looks trying to feel right in one, I think? Gets behind a changing curtain at one point, has a bit of a tantrum. Loses an earring or something under the vanity, maybe hits her head getting back up. It's all very serious

I need help. Years ago, I heard a singer-songwriter/folky/bar song about a guy crashing his car into a eucalyptus tree. I don’t know if the artist was Australian, but maybe some of the lyrics were kind of Australian in nature. Anyhow, the guy was drunk, maybe driving home from the pub at night and runs off the road through a fence into the tree. I don’t remember any words except “the GODDAMN EUCALYPTUS TREE” in the chorus, sung in a way that gets the whole audience to join in.
