Can confirm episode one is solid. Dialogue hasn't been the S-tier work of season 3 yet (pirate of the roads, Jesus of murder, toilet paper), but we've had a lot of really nice fights.

Not that it adds much to the conversation, but...I do not think I have ever seen a single opinion that "you know what, this show had just the right amount of episodes". Shows with 3 episodes a season, 6 episodes a season, 10 episodes a season, 13 episodes a season, 20 episodes a season, 26 episodes a season, 52 episodes a season etc. all receive complaints in my experience, whether because they're too drawn out or too rushed. I guess the ones where no-one talks about the pacing/length are the good ones because it's like cleaning, and if no-one comments then you're doing a good job. Almost every show I can ever recall gets some people complaining about the length and pacing though.

I liked the pacing of the seasons personally. I think I just prefer slow pacing that examines the characters or setting at the cost of action though, honestly. So it may just be me or a minority opinion.

:hmmyes: I got you...

You know what, I think Bodyguard/Karppi/Avenue 5/The Lost Room/The End of the F***ing World/and-other-stuff had the right amount of episodes!

Just out of curiosity, why was this show made but not more well known IPs that have had games released in the past 2 decades? Is it because vampires always sell? I mean why not a series on the Diablo franchise.

Exploration is ill-advised.
Konami doesn't care about video games anymore, they're probably far more willing to sign off on whatever. Activision-Blizzard would likely make a huge headache about it and want it to be kid-friendly or something.

It got made because Warren Ellis had a lot of pull in the fantasy writing community and commands a really huge audience who will read almost everything he puts out and he felt like doing it.

That’s really why I doubt we’ll see more from this series, it’s gotta be insanely expensive to make.

Konami will license their legacy IP for just about anything with no real quality concerns, this series has a strong fanbase despite not having released a game in nearly two face decades, vampires and generic fantasy poo poo is an easy sell, and people like Ellis have (or had) the pull to sell it.

Given how well this one has done we might see more but it really depends on the specific IP. Other companies are not as easy to work with, and the studio that did this series is not cheap (although I really hope they get them back for any future Castlevania stuff).

Speaking of the various games, which one had the cards that gave you stats or magical abilities? Harmony of Dissonance? I remember really enjoying it but I would've played anything coming off of SotN.

Just finished this season, enjoyed it quite a bit. A big part was throwing everything missing from the other seasons that were in the games in there (Flea men!) and just having a straight up epic final boss fight.

And finished. Episodes 6 to 10 were certainly a roller-coaster.

All in all, very good season, and a very good finale to this iteration of Castlevania.

Just finished the season. Might be the best one so far (4 > 2 > 3> 1, IMO). Very satisfying wrap up to the series but was hoping Issac was going to get some screen time in the last episode but oh well. Here's hoping they go for another one with Simon Belmont in the future.

I was just thinking that. It ended on a very high note. This entire show turned out way better than it had any right to be.

It's Feast of Ascension, which is a single-day holiday in many countries.

Also, it was midday when the season was released here.

This season was great, the only part that didn't really work for me was the Targoviste stuff. Everything else knocked it out of the park, though - and I'm so happy they brought Flyeyes back.

Also big shout outs to my boy Gergoth

Whatever happens next I am very happy we got something this good, I never would've expected it when it was announced.

Their video games revenue was up 35% YoY and brought in around a billion dollars. I keep repeating myself but Konami's gaming division isn't just more profitable than it was 5 or 10 years ago, its growing.

Well the show supposedly takes place in 1455, and Lenore says she is 200 years old (probably an approximation and not an exact age). In the general time frame of who England was fighting in the time period around 1255 you have the Saintonge War (1242-1243 against France) or the second Baron's war (1264-1267 civil war). So she is probably either English or French, with English fitting the time frame the best. She could also be rounding her age up to 200 and she was a young Welsh-woman during the Welsh uprising of 1282.

Neat! The cool thing about vampires in this series is that they gave them a very international flair. So we get Russian vampires and Persian Vampires and Japanese vampires and Cockney vampires. There seems to be a degree of nationalism baked in many of them (which makes sense, considering they're immortal and got nothing better to do than be racist/sexist towards other vampires.)

The worst part of the earlier seasons was killing off Godbrand because he was loving hilarious.

I binged the entire season starting as soon as I clocked out of work and holy poo poo I want more Castlevania but if this is all we're gonna get I'll definitely be satisfied. Nah I'm just kidding please give me my boi Soma

I marked the gently caress out for Varney the Vampire turning out to be Death in disguise and Saint Germaine eating poo poo. Also loved what a loving rude shithead Death was, his taunts and insults toward Saint Germaine and Trevor had me cackling.

Also jesus gently caress, Hector just can't get a break, can he?

Edit: One of my favorite non-combat moments in the whole season was Isaac talking to Hector after revealing that he didn't come to kill him. It was amazingly poignant.

I binged through the series this afternoon.

It's occurred to me that if they're setting up a direct adaptation of any canon game in the series from this point forward, it'd make the most sense to do Order of Ecclesia. I seem to remember the creators saying at some point that all of the villagers you rescue over the course of that game are Belmont descendants, so changing it to be a story about Belmont Village four hundred years later would be a reasonably natural fit.

Thats not creator, thats in game itself. Its why you need to find them all before doing the end game

It also just occurred to me that I've made a big deal about the Belmont family line in my head, but really in the show's universe all that was special about them is that they went out hunting down knowledge and trained like hell. With the village being created at the end being called Belmont, there's really no reason that they couldn't jump ahead X number of years and have the Belmonts returned to prominence and acting as kind of an elite monster hunter guild, despite the fact that a very small amount of them are direct heirs of the actual Belmont bloodline. I think that after generally seeing humans getting their poo poo kicked in, dying, and suffering, it'd be fun to see humanity getting by okay in the 1600-1700s with Belmonts respected and helping to keep various evil creatures from messing with humans. Naturally after that some bad poo poo goes down and we're basically back to bodies in the streets, but I think seeing a golden age/renaissance kind of vibe at the start would be fun, and I'd prefer to see the antagonists enacting their plans because of their unique evil agenda and not because the church was REAL dumb and killed Dracula's wife.

Only Belmont blood can use the whip, it's why order of ecclesia the plot is about trying to find a way to kill dracula without it, cause the Belmont's are all missing

I really thought this was the best season by far, it felt like the new writer/showrunner realized that there were 50 games worth of weapons, monsters and bosses, and this was the time to use them in the show.
