That is a Tune. What's Marina's recent output been like? I was insanely into her when she first started but dropped off after her third album cause it was a load of shite

You didn't like Froot?????? That's a pop crime.

After that we got Love + Fear which was good but not great. It's all dialed back compared to her first few albums. It's loosely themed around a (supposedly flawed but I'm no expert) philosophical/psychological idea about us only having two emotions, so ymmv if that's something that might bother you. It's only a little more subtle than Purge the Poison. I'm sounding really down on it, I still like it a lot (enough to see her do it live and buy the t-shirt). Her vocals are still great and the production is good, but it's quite different and not as much fun. Exactly which tracks are best is divisive but I love Karma, To Be Human, and Life Is Strange. It also has a Clean Bandit and Luis Fonsi collab, Baby, which is very different but probably my favourite of hers from that era.

She's also done a couple of non album things, Disconnect with Clean Bandit which is kind of generic, and About Love from a film soundtrack, which I really like. Also a parade of leaks and snippets that haven't made it anywhere - if you can find Happy Loner and I'm Not Hungry Anymore they're both cool and it's very disappointing we're not getting thme.

Then for this new era we've had Man's World which is very much like Love + Fear. It's a good Political Song if you like those, and unbearably eye-rolling if you don't. And now Purge the Poison which is more Rina and less like any of that other stuff, and I really hope she leans into it.

"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

Speaking of old brits having good taste in modern music, Paul McCartney, who released a quarantine album a week after Evermore popped, released a full remix album with 13 tracks all redone by everyone from Phoebe Bridgers to Beck to Anderson .Paak but the highlight is this:

https://youtu.be/L2IJzVAOvaU

It is 1000% a Paul McCartney song, you can hear some sounds that wouldn’t show up anywhere else but it also sounds modern and perfect for Fike, who brings a very different energy to this version. It might be a long-shot but I could see Macca pick up one last Billboard hit single somewhere on here

If the tracks we’ve already heard that have made the album are accurate examples of its sound, I’m not sure it’s gonna be for me. They’re a lot more generic than before.

your power isn’t very interesting to me musically but the lyrics are great, a similar situation to the one detailed in the song rocked my friend group recently so it really hit me hard

I think Billie is wildly talented and can crank out very good ballads like nobody’s business but for someone who discovered her with You Should See Me in a Crown and still thinks that Bad Guy is her best track even when I heard it so much I’m kinda bummed that she hasn’t really come out with something in that sound that doesn’t feel uninspired (sorry Therefore I Am I like your music video tho). Maybe she’s evolving into an artist that just isn’t as much what I want out of music (like Lana has done). I still wish her all the success in the world.

On a less whiny note, I’m super glad this song is popular because I want to see more 90s band rock inspired songs get big (beyond just pop-punk). Now it’s got Tegan and Sara and multi-pronounal choruses!

Normally when a person makes an album they make 11 songs with the same sound and 11 different subjects, but Olivia Rodrigo is breaking the mold and making 11 songs with the same subject and 11 different sounds

This sounds like I’m poking fun but honestly deja vu was better than drivers license and good 4 u is even better than that. I dig the 2000s pop rock sound, it’s very nostalgic, some real Paramore-meets-Kelly Clarkson vibes

Lol wow, that is really the perfect description. People often accuse pop songs of all having the same subject matter, but it's uncanny to hear 3 songs where the subject matter is literally, exactly, the same. And yet, the music is unassailable.
