I was more interested in this when I thought it was a movie and not a Netflix series but that is a good trailer. Hit me right in the feels.

I can't say those movies appeal to me, but I do know that when my buddy ran out of Scooby-Doo episodes to watch with his 6 year old kids there wasn't much decent age-appropriate spooky stuff to recommend outside of those films. So, not for me, but I respect making spooky stuff for the under-10 set to indoctrinate them to horror early.

Also that's not Adam Sandler, but instead a sound-a-like. Sandler didn't come back for the fourth.

That kinda says it all, it’d be one thing if Sandler had pride, but this means they don’t think the series is worth the investment of paying his price tag anymore, now it’s relegated to the pit of endless depreciating sequels

I’m actually getting really tired of hyper realistic cgi that moves like a janky, weightless, robotic puppet with the emotional range of an emoji.

Maybe I’m just bitter after season 2 of Love Death & Robots

The way I see it, the more CG tries to be realistic, the more it needs to play by the rules of good real-life filmmaking. And it's where they all fall short. Why does the set design look like so uninspired? Why do characters say dumbass poo poo like "The root of terror starts from fear"? Why is the cinematography so drat boring?

Good real-life cinematography is really hard. You have to bounce lights and wait for the right weather and rig a loving dolly for your camera. This is animation. What's their loving excuse?

There are a couple Resident Evil CG movies done in the same mocap style that were actually pretty good iirc (at least Resident Evil: Degeneration was, I can't remember if I ever actually saw RE: Damnation) so yeah I'm down for this.

Why the gently caress didn't they get Paul Mercier back as Leon though????

I agree. Actually all animated films should follow those constraints—breaking those the rules, which is easy for animation, should be done sparingly and with purpose. The good ones do.

I think they’re just taking too many liberties with the virtual nature of the camera. Same with decision to use CG instead of live action with digital effects. Why go through the effort to render hyper realistic humans instead of just filming real humans? What’s the goal?

And you see the result. For a moment, a few frames at a time where the characters are still, you look at it and marvel: “wow, that poo poo is SO real. I can’t believe how good that looks.” And then the character moves, emotes, or talks and the spell is completely broken. It’s a mannequin again—just a really detailed mannequin.

Assuming you mean the bit about being less dark, I honestly think that's a novel approach, fewer movies/shows that have a more optimistic/fantastical view of the post-apocalypse, and it fits with a naive child being the main character and heart of the production.
